During our senior high school days, teachers and learners used smartphones and the internet for quick research and communication. It was also a big help in accessing learning materials online. Video conferencing became important, especially for online classes and group discussions, allowing us to learn despite being in our own homes. Social media was also used to share information, collaborate on projects, and stay updated on global events, making learning more interactive and connected.

1. Two-way Process

Communication and globalization strengthen each other. Social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and X allow people worldwide to exchange ideas instantly, creating stronger connections. We can maintain these benefits by sharing information responsibly and promoting truth online.

Another Picture Source:

https://images.openai.com/thumbnails/url/e15JWnicu5meUVJSUGylr5-al1xUWVCSmqJbkpRnoJdeXJJYkpmsl5yfq5-Zm5ieWmxfaAuUsXL0S7F0Tw42TkoOz012dUqPN_Iz9M7zLYiK9wt1TPZycXTKyfD1CnS3cMwzL_IsNnJLVyu2NTQAAPw7JEc

2. Cross-cultural Communication

Teachers in countries like the Philippines now use online platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet to teach students from different parts of the world.

1. Cultural Exchange

Cultural exchange happens when people from different countries share their traditions, practices, and ideas with each other. A good example of this is when foreigners try foods from another country and post it online , this introduces dishes from different parts of the world are introduced to a wider audience. Another example is the growing popularity of K-pop concerts outside South Korea, where fans from other countries learn about Korean music, dance, and even language. These examples show that globalization makes it easier for people to connect, interact, and learn from each other, leading to more understanding and appreciation of different cultures.

Since the padlet allows only one file to be uploaded, kindly click this link for more example: https://youtube.com/shorts/BgSRrVqQKHk?si=TJRwIlt6FGNEQvR6

2. Cultural Homogenization

Cultural homogenization is when different cultures start to become more similar because of the influence of globalization. For instance, many countries now have international brands like McDonald’s, which make lifestyles and consumer habits look almost the same in many places. Another example is how people around the world wear similar Western-style clothing or follow the same TikTok trends and dances, no matter where they live. This shows that while globalization makes the world more connected, it can also reduce cultural uniqueness because people tend to follow what is popular globally rather than keep their traditional practices.

Since the padlet allows only one file to be uploaded, kindly click this link for more example:

https://youtu.be/-2daJou9qwk?si=UgzbbgHsmezDWjIX

3. Cultural Preservation

Cultural preservation focuses on protecting and keeping traditional practices alive, even in the face of globalization. For example, many indigenous groups like 'Igorort' still perform their cultural dances, wear traditional clothing, and celebrate their local festivals like 'Lang-ay Festival' to make sure their culture continues for the next generations. Another example is the recognition of UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Banaue Rice Terraces, which helps protect historical and cultural landmarks that are important to humanity. These efforts show that while globalization may encourage change, it is still possible to maintain and protect unique cultural identities by valuing traditions and passing them on to younger generations.

Since the padlet allows only one file to be uploaded, kindly click this link for more example:

https://youtu.be/ANmVMhJHsfY?si=G_LUgJ8iMC7n7T-l

KILAYON, GAWAY JANE A.

Advantages of Globalization in the Teaching Profession:

     1. One advantage of globalization for teachers is the access to different learning materials from around the world. Instead of relying only on local books, teachers can now use online resources, videos, and updated information that make lessons more engaging and relevant for students.

     2. Another advantage is the chance for teachers to grow professionally. Globalization opens opportunities to attend online trainings, join international seminars, and connect with educators from other countries. This allows teachers to learn new techniques and bring better ideas into their own classrooms.

Disadvantages of Globalization in the Teaching Profession:

     1. A disadvantage is the pressure on teachers to always adapt to technology. Since schools are expected to use digital tools and online platforms, teachers must adjust quickly, and this can be stressful for those who are not very familiar with modern technology.

     2. Another disadvantage is the competition with foreign teachers. Globalization makes it easier for schools to hire teachers from other countries, especially in subjects like English, which sometimes makes local teachers feel less secure about their jobs.
