Plants are a major part of our society and we utilize plants to make many things that humans depend on. Without plants humans would not have food, medicine, clothing, furniture, and so much more. Society can use plants as decorations and many people have careers that revolve around them such as gardeners, botanists, and ranchers to name a few. Plants are a very important part of our societies and something that we as humans depend on in our every day lives. Without plants in our environment, there would be no oxygen to breathe and they also provide shelter and food for all organisms both small and large.

The greatest part about photosynthesis and the part humans should be most grateful for is the fact that plants give us oxygen to breath. Like the video says "Do you like to breath?" You betcha! The video sums up photosynthesis nicely and doesn't explain it in a confusing way. I for one am so thankful for plants and their amazing cycle of photosynthesis.

One of the native plants to the state of Georgia is the Georgia oak or Stone Mountain Oak. It is classified as an angiosperm because it will produce flowers or fruit. The Georgia oak also produces acorns and beautiful shiny green leaves. The taxonomic name is Quercus georgiana. Unfortunately, this plant is classified as endangered on the conservation list.

The most endangered biome in the world is the temperate grasslands. I believe this is because of human encroachment and no incentive to protect these lands. Many conservationists are working towards helping rainforests, oceans, animals, etc., but there is not as much work involved in helping grasslands. Whenever there is a need for land to be developed, humans always look to grassland areas since they are open, flat, and easier to build on.

During the Neolithic period, human beings realized they were able to grow their own plants and decrease the need to migrate. This is where farming was invented, which is how we are able to provide plant, vegetables, and other foods to human beings all around the world. One impact the first agricultural revolution had on humans was the knowledge that we gained as far as what plants are toxic or not. Plants not only have a purpose to nourish the body and the planet, but they are also some of the main tools used for medicinal purposes as well.

Food preservation is one of the innovations from the Third Agricultural Revolution that helped bring the joy of food to those all over the world. This technique helped keep food fresh for longer periods of time by preventing the growth of microorganisms like bacteria. There are many methods of food preservation such as canning, pickling, salting, drying, freezing, or the least favorite choice; chemical preservation. There are many "old fashioned" ways to preserve your food and still keep nutrients without using chemical preservatives.

The most influential chemical at the moment is taxol, which is derived from the Pacific yew tree and is used to treat different forms of cancer. Cancer is one of the worlds number one killers and a simple ingredient from a plant can help humans combat these deadly diseases. I have always been thankful for plants not only feeding humans nutritionally, but for providing medicinal purposes as well.

If humans continue to neglect the signs that our planet is clearly sending to us, then our future generations will be in big trouble. I chose this picture because we need to continue to work on sustainable farming techniques, and we need to become less dependent on oils, coal, and fossil fuels to run equipment and machines around the world. Now is the time to take action and many people and countries have begun to change their ways, but the change needs to happen as soon as possible in order to keep our lands and plants fertile and fruitful for the future children of this planet.
