I was completely unaware that REM sleep decreases when age increases. Also, the fact that fetuses in the womb have rapid eye movement is so interesting to me considering the brain doesn't start developing until the 26-28th week.

It's very fascinating to me how almost all mammals have REM sleep but reptiles do not! I am curious to know why REM sleep has evolved and how it became part of our genetic "legacy" to be apart of our survival skills.

It is said that during REM sleep, our daily experiences can be replayed as our dreams at night. I can for sure back that up with my own experiences. This past summer, I work several double shifts as a server, meaning that I was on my feet for over 12 hours. When I got done with my shift I would fall asleep instantly from exhaustion but oddly enough I would experience anxiety in my dream that I had to go and refill my tables drink or be on my toes at all times to take care of my tables. Most nights I would wake up because I had such bad anxiety because I was afraid that my tables were going to tip me unfairly or write a bad review about the restaurant.

Watching this video has really made think a lot about my dreams. Are dreams really producing messages to your brain? Are reoccurring dreams something that you are worried about or have anxiety about? Do dreams actually have a meaning or are they just apart of our imagination?
