Deepavali was celebrated at our school's main hall of Southern University College on November 2, 2023. The Southern Indian Culture & Language Society (SICLS) hosted this event. The celebration's theme was "Celebrating the Festival of light Deepavali 2023." The celebration's goal was to go beyond tradition and envision a future in which the celebrations honor Mother Earth. We had to participate in several intriguing activities.

There was a chance to hire and choose Sari at will on the day of the event. This event took on a deeper cultural importance when the staff also discussed the significance of the Sari. Through these events, individuals were able to learn about the cultural significance and historical context of the Sari in addition to admiring its beauty. They remind us that the sari was more than simply clothes for Indian women; it was a special and imaginative way to express life, beauty, and color. Saris are the epitome of richness and grace. The elegant presence of the Sari elevates every event, be it a wedding or everyday business.

Traditionally done by female family members at home entrances, it was heartening to see men and boys embracing this tradition. Participants used materials like white stone powder, chalk, or chalk powder, often incorporating natural or synthetic coloration powders.The diverse array of "Kolam" decorations showcased intricate and vibrant patterns, creating a fantastic visual spectacle for the group. Experiencing this aspect of Indian culture was truly amazing and served as inspiration for us to try our hand at decorating our own "Kolam."
