When I need to feel energized and awake, I usually rely on high energy alternative music, like Pop Punk, Metal, or Alt Rock. One of my favorite songs to listen to since it came out is YOUtopia by Bring Me the Horizon, and it often helps a lot to give me energy or pick me up when I'm in a poor mood. It's a mid-high tempo, upbeat song, but there's this slightly nostalgic edge to it that reminds me a lot of late 2000s-early 2010s Emo/Pop punk music. It very quickly became one of my top 5 favorite songs when it first came out, and it works pretty well for putting me in a good mood when I need it.

Manha de Carnaval - Vince Guaraldi Trio

Whenever I feel like I am in a bad mood, I always enjoy listening to music like this in order to capture the moment for myself. "Manha de Carnaval" is a jazz standard that comes from the movie Black Orpheus which is a retelling of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice.

After graduating high school, I felt like I was in an unhappy mood due to feeling as though I did not make the best of my time during those years. I vowed that when I went to Montco, I would get to do the things that I missed out on such as hanging out with a group of friends, travel across Pennsylvania, and expand my horizons on what I am interested in. I did not get to do these yet, but I hope to in the following years.

As a fan of the Peanuts television specials, Vince Guaraldi (the series' main composer) means a lot to me, especially with his piano playing that sound very lively and warm. Through research, I found that he was a moody musician, and he sadly left us too soon at the age of 47.

Other jazz pianists that make me feel relaxed include ones like Bill Evans, Chick Corea, and Dave Brubeck.

A few years ago I joined an Independent A Class Color Guard based out of the Allentown Area. We used this song for a breathing exercise during body warm ups at the beginning of our practices. Color Guard can be a very stressful sport especially at the higher levels of competition. This breathing exercise gave me a moment of time each practice where I could allow my mind to go completely blank. My breathing and my body would simply do what they needed to without thought. It may sound so trivial to have 3 minutes of complete peace of mind but when its at the beginning of a 9 hour practice preceding a competition against other groups in our class who have been working just as hard on their own programs, it meant I had the time to clear out all thoughts that had nothing to do with the day and organize and prioritize those that actually did matter for the day. Even after parting ways with that Color Guard, I kept this breathing exercise with me and even taught it to the high school students in the Scholastic Regional A Guard that I was coaching. It's an exercise that I will still use to this day whenever my mind is too loud and too hectic for me to feel like a functioning person.

Another instrument that I play is called the Parforce horn. The reason for me playing it is because I am also an American Revolutionary War reenactor. I protray a Hessian Jäger (Jäger, pronouned YAY-ger, quite literally translates to "hunter" in German) Which is exactly what our job was in Germany, to be huntsmen. The Parforce Horn, or "Waldhorn", is the instrumen that is featured in this compositon. Often played in quartet style varying in scale and dynamics.

Now, thats not the point. At my events that I go to, whenever my mentor Mr. Grumbine, who first taught me this instrument is there, we always make it a point to play this piece together at least at somepoint. It holds alot of sentemental value for me considering it is the first complete musical compostion that I ever played on this instrument, but also that it is a very powerfull movement in it's own right and that I have the opportunity to play it with someone as Mr. Grubine.

La Grande Messe De Saint Hubertus is a Catholic Mass song dedicated to of course, Sait Hubert. The patron Saint of Hunters and Engeniers. I am not catholic. However, I do hold in very high reguard their Mass pieces. Each one is beatiful in it's own way. This piece is one I only play for fun, but it brings me so much joy when our horns blast together in song.
