A few things about me

Hi everybody! My name is Sara, I'm 33 years old and I live in Milan (Italy).

On my ID card, in the profession field, someone wrote MEDIA EDUCATOR :-) but in the real world I'm doing a lot of different things, always concearning new media and education.

With an old good friend of mine (and also a very very talented and professional collegue), I'm giving birth in this days to a project of Media Education Courses for schoolers and teachers, called ATELIER DIGITALE, based on the idea of letting people "touch with hands" in some workshops how digital works, using traditional and new media, videogames, coding and much more ... stay tuned!

I joined this course to learn new things, share opinions and experiences and -why not?- virtual meet or collaborate with other people.

Something about this course

This course aims to guide teachers in how to develop a range of digital skills and to introduce them to the tools and resources that are available to them. At the end of the course, teachers should be able to design lessons that focus on a range of digital skills, make use of innovative tools to assist their own and the students’ work in this area.

In a a previous EUN Academy course, a brilliant participant started a group photo initiative where everybody posted a picture of themselves to a Padlet. The result was an amazingly colourful canvas with lots of fantastic teachers. So as a first activity let's try to do this again.

Think about the different digital skills outlined by Ollie and in the animation. Which of these do you feel are the most important, now in 2015? Do you agree with the 10 items from the Mashable website? And which ones will be more important in the future?

I think the 10 skills from Mashable are very important, but I'm sure young people are very good technically (often even more than their teachers!).

In my opinion, in future, the more important will be skills concearning digital citinzenship: finding informations distinguing authoritative sources, effective communicating, "reading" mediated messages.

Do you agree with the key ideas presented by Ollie (via the Jeff Brenman presentation)? How do you think that work will evolve between now and 2025? Is this a positive or negative development?

I think work will evolve destroying time and space limits: we might work together with a person who lives on the other side of the world, that is awake while we are sleeping.

It will be a positive development, if workers will be good digital citizen too, able to use a machine and not to "get lost" in it.

Have you had an online interview before? Does your school do online interviews? Do you have a LinkedIn profile? Have you addressed the topic of how to access jobs in the 21st century with your students? Share your stories of the new world of digital recruitment and how/if it has already reached schools in Europe.

Yes, I have had some online interview, sometimes with people that found me on LinkedIn!!!

I think it's very very important prepare young people to this, learn together how to set a digital porfolio, an online curriculum vitae, hw to present themselves in a video or in a skype interview

Check your nickname: what does it say about you?
Dress for the job you want (pants and shoes included!)
What does your body reveals about you? Think about your makeup, your hair, your piercing or tattoos
Mantain digital eye contact: look directly at the camera, not at the screen
Build a quiet set: no kids coming in, no phones ringing, ...

Ollie outlines some of the changes and challenges to expect in the future and suggests 5 principles for us as teachers to follow in our work in the classroom. Do you agree with Ollie's analysis? Will these changes/challenges occur and how would you address them in your work as a teacher?

I'm not a teacher, but I think it's very very important divide technological skills from digital competences. I agree with Oliie's suggestions.

We’re going to have to work for longer and we’ll be expected to work increasingly into generational teams
There will be an increase in robots and machines more widely across the whole of societies
Things like augmented reality will tell us what to do by wearing virtual handsets, removing the need for some skilled jobs
We’re going to have the capacity to know more stuff about more stuff: we’ll pretty much have sensors all over our homes and in all over our clothing, giving us more and more informations about everything

We'd like you to tell us a bit about yourself by briefly identifying what digital skill you think you are best at. Are you good at creating digital content? Or are you an effective online communicator? Or maybe you are especially good at finding things on the internet? Or are you a gifted programmer?

I think my strongest digital skill is creating digital content, even meant as coding. In Italian, we use the same word "programmare", both for "coding" and "planning" ... this is a skill that I would like to improve: building efficient and effective DIGITAL educational programs :-)
