Roman emperor Nero watched gladiator fights through polished gems.

- china 12th century. Made out of lenses that were flat panes of smoky quartz. Didn’t protect from harmful uv rays but protected eyes from the glare. Used by judges to hide facial expression when they interrogated witnesses.

- James Ayscough began experimenting tinted lenses in spectacles 1752. He believed blue or green tinted glasses could correct specific vision impairments. Protection from the sun wasn’t a concern.

Future for sunglasses

In the future this can be used to find frames and the lenses people what for their sunglasses. Instead of searching through a long list of items, they can describe the brand, colours, shape and style they want.

In the Adidas store in oxford street, their is screens to search for items and use the Aidas app to scan shoes to find the sizes and colours. Also in the changing rooms there is mirrors that can present different items from the brand and changeable backgrounds for selfies. They use different technology to show case items that the customer can want. Even when the customer has chosen an item they would like to purchase they can use a treadmill to experience how the Garment works in a set environment.

In the Nike store, in New York, their is many interactions the customer can use. Mannequins are scan able to find the items they are wearing. Customers can reserve items online and try them on in store, without having to hunt for the item. In the changing rooms the lights are changeable to different environments, including gyms or yoga rooms. Once the customer is done they don’t have to interact with any staff by instantly checking out on the Nike app. The store also has a custom trainer floor, to design you’re own pattern or colour on the traditional Nike shape trainer.

From this we can predict the future for sunglasses. Hosting ways to customise your own sunglasses in any style, colour and material they desire. Looking at the idea of scan items in the Adidas store, buyers could scan pictures, adverts or sunglasses they see in person and find where to buy them and able to instantly buy it once they have found it through a online data base. Sunglasses stores could host simulated environments for customers to test their product and find the perfect style for practical use.

Location: easy to find adjacent was an other lingerie store. Both stores are separate which was annoying.

Windows: Not many and didn’t catch my attention. Half figure mannequins. Not many graphics just imagery on non moving screens. Promotions of few sales and none window technology.

Store design: dark and hard to navigate. Was room to walk even though store was full of displays. Boutique style.

In store experience: just shopping, bra fitting and slight personal shopping.

Product: Displayed on hangers facing the product forwards and on mannequins. Some wearing matching sets and some dressed an outfit. High product density. Categories of womens only, underwear, lounge wear, pyjamas and sports wear. Not really matching trends, part from sliders and scrunchies. No sustainable ranges.

Promotions: few sales signs and size guides. 90 day return policy, non-moving screens, hardly any technology in store.

When looking at the promotions and products at Victoria’s Secret, it is clear that the brand is directed at a teen to young adult demographic. Bright pinks and fun colours creates a youthful presence to the brand. Directed at middle to upper class females, who are fit conscious and social media originated. However, even with a young demographic the brand still seems behind and out of touch with the new leading generation for fashion.

They have a limited sizing and have been criticized for their lack of diversity including appearing to only be directed at the “man’s fantasy”. Recently the brand has tried to be more relevant with what new customers want from brands. Creating sustainable products and expanding their sizes, seems to be a start for their reach to Gen-z. They may have increased their sizes and made diversity campaigns but it is clear that there is still improvement to be made.

Tell me about yourself?

Through my courses I have always done creative arts, but this year going into the FRA it has opened me to fashion and introduced me to ways I can use my skills in the industry. I commonly used programs like photoshop and photoshop itself. I like painting and designing interiors, exteriors, landscapes and even clothing. I recently just started developing my skills in knitting and crochet and began selling my creations at a Art store. When I am out, I like to walk into stores to see the experience it gives and looking if the displays are making me want to walk in.

Why do you want to work for us?

Since I started to explore my personal style, H&M is a brand that I have been loyal to. I am passionate about the brand's image and what they stand for, such as recently their sustainability campaign. The idea of VM gives my great interest and a way that I can use my creative abilities to create a store experience. my conclusion:
In a team i would more people the planner and the idea maker. This is something I have always found that i am like that in teams.
I like to make sure that everyone is doing their part in a group and are doing a task which they enjoy and are best at.
