As human's we have a voice that concentate change. Athletes have that too; they even have a bigger voice then the everyday person. With their platform, with their fame, people listen, people notice. This shouldn't effect their ability to express their views. Freedom of speech. Activism is important. We see it all over the word right now. People should be speaking out. If athletes decide to do the same, they should. It doesn't interfere with their game, its just a different side. Their not just "athletes", they are more than that; they have views, opinions. Let them speak, no excuses.

Some fans may disagree with the athlete and what they think, but it's great for them to bring attention to issues around the world.

I think athletes should speak out on social and political issues. They should use their platforms and voices to spread awareness on problems like racism. They can educate their big fan bases and as well as others too. The activism may interfere with their career, such as losing fans who disagree with their opinion but they shouldn't care. Making a difference in the world is more important than losing a few fans.

I think that athletes should speak out on social/political issues because they have such a big influence on people they could use it to cause good change. If not cause change they can also raise awareness on the topic. I think that there are limits to when they should express their views. This would be when they are causing a negative instead of a positive impact on people. I don't think that the activism of athletes interfere with mine or other fans' enjoyment of the game. If they're doing something to cause a change that will have a positive impact on people, nobody should be upset about that.

I personally think they have the responsibility to speak up but I think they should if they can. Some can't because of their management teams or contracts but many can and those should definitely speak up if they can. It would be helpful to the communities they speak up for but it isn't a responsibility. It's more of a good deed rather than a responsibility.

I agree and also don't agree. It's not a responsibility for them to speak up about issues but It's a great idea for them to do so. They shouldn't feel pressured to speak up about things going on, but It'll help our world to be more aware about what's going on. I personally do think favorably about athletes who take political stands because they're taking time to speak up for people who don't think they have a voice. People who are battling with identity or race and think they aren't able to speak out for themselves, bigger athletes will help a lot with that. People will feel more comftrable with themselves. They can make a huge difference.

My reaction to Osaka's essay is that it has a very clear meaning of what she wants to reader to know. She wants to tell people how athletes are more than just people to watch for entertainment and that they can have opinions too. I think her argument about how people see them no more than just bodies is that post persuasive.

Just because they are an athlete doesn't mean that they arent educated enough to share their opinion. If they shouldn't speak out, that would be suppressing their voice and their thoughts.

I do see higher of those who choose to use their voice to speak up but I do not see down on those who don't speak up but in some cases I do because they have more of a platform then the regular person and should be using that platform to be activists for their beliefs and thing that are right.

Being a fan of sports means liking the athletes that play in some cases and if you are a fan of the person then you usually dig deep into their lives to find out more about them. Personally, when I am a fan of someone, it's not just because of their job, or their abilities to do tricks that the average person can't, but more on who they are as a person. Are they good role models? Do they use their platform for good? Would I want my future kids looking up to this person? There is more to a person then what they do for the public eye
