Day 1 : Decision Making

Today I researched a variety of ideas on Pinterest and You-Tube. I decided I really wanted to challenge myself and do a project that would really push me. I observed my weakness and it came down to noses and landscapes. I decided to focus my concentration on landscapes because I found more available tutorials.
Understanding the Art World: I researched a variety of painters who focus on landscapes and sunsets. Typically they use paint in the videos I watched so that's what I'm gonna try and do ! The advice they give in their videos is to focus on layering ! They also discuss the importance of color mixing.
Envision: I printed out a variety of landscapes I liked and put them in my sketchbook. I then found a youtube tutorial that I would follow everyday until the project was over. If it does not work out, I am not allowed to change my subject matter so I hope it does! Its gonna be hard but I'm gonna continue to work through it and learn through the process.

Day 2: Baseline

Engage and Persist: Today I struggled with painting the sunset. I just can not seem to wrap my head around the colors and the positions of everything. I did not watch the tutorial so I was really on my own. I am also facing the challenge color mixing. I have a hard time knowing which colors are suppose to go where and how to make them. My highlights in the clouds are also WAY OFF. The clouds are suppose to be a dark purple but for some reason mine are orange and pink? I don't know what I was thinking. I am going to continue to try and fix these mistakes in the future. Currently, I am very motivated to show progression through out my art. The baseline is not suppose to be a work of art but I'm hoping by the end of this it looks better.
Stretch and Explore: I am challenging myself with the material of paint. Paint is not my strong suit when it comes to materials. Acrylic paints are very hard for me to manipulate and use. I have made a lot of mistakes but some have helped the piece to look more cohesive. I accidentally added too much pink to the sky but later I layered it with orange and it didn't look terrible !

Day 3: Trial #2

Express: Today I followed the tutorial and it helped a lot ! Already I see improvement in my sky. The clouds are a more accurate representation and the color is better! Additionally, the location of the horizon line is higher which is a better location. I am starting to successfully portray my content!
Develop Craft: There are a few limitations on what the paints can do. The paint dries at a weird time. It can take a long time and other times it seems to dry fast. This can make it hard if you need to layer. Paints are also very messy and it is very hard to get rid of mistakes since paint is permanent. I researched a variety of painting techniques that demonstrate how to properly paint and different brush strokes.
Reflect: Although there are improvements, there are also some mistakes. The sky seems a little too crowded and it does not seem blended. Also, the water does not look like water. Additionally, I need to make the horizon line less noticeable. The orange is too vibrant and takes away from my painting. It is suppose to resemble a reflection of the clouds but it is way off. I am learning how to color mix though! My colors are starting to look better. I am learning that the more colors you mix, the more depth the composition has. I am noticing a lot of improvement in my art and it is making me so excited! I can not wait to see what my last day looks like.

Day 4: FINAL

Observe: I AM SO HAPPY WITH HOW MY PAINTING CAME OUT. The colors look so blended and cohesive. Additionally, the reflections finally are starting to match the colors in the sky. It actually looks like a landscape! A few of my proudest successes are the colors I created and how I blended them. I like the way my water looks through the use of pink and orange undertones. Lastly, I like the settle orange reflections I added to my dark purple clouds. My favorite detail is how my horizon line is actually blended out.
Reflect: The saying "practice makes perfect" is kinda lie because perfection does not exist BUT practice does make you better! I love looking at how much my art as changed in just one week! It is so exciting and it makes me want to continue painting this landscape even if the project ended. This project made me feel very inspired to develop my art skills more and more. I have learned how to do highlights in water and in clouds, how to blend colors and how to color mix. I am really proud of my progression.
