I define health as feeling good physically, emotionally, and mentally, wherein I can look after myself and my family's wellbeing. If I am feeling happy and good, I will have a good appetite, I can do my tasks energetically, I can be mentally alert in solving life's problems, and I can be emotionally stable when faced with sad situations. Moreover, I can take good care of my family, like cooking them good food and having fun because I am healthy.

Citation for photo:
https://saltori.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/i-choose-to-feel-good-now-2.png

Country of origin: Syria

Syria is a country in Southwestern Asia. In March 2011, the Syrian war started, and people fled their country to seek safety. Moreover, Australia has granted 1,109 visas to Syrian refugees under its Humanitarian Program. The health conditions seen in Syrian refugees in Australia include schistosomiasis, anaemia, and mental health issues.

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease acquired when there is contact with freshwater contaminated by infected human feces or urine. The drug treatment for schistosomiasis is praziquantel, which has a high cure rate and is generally safe.

Anaemia occurs when red blood cell is below the normal range. Treating anaemia includes giving iron supplements when anaemia is caused by iron deficiency and introducing a healthy diet containing iron and other vitamins.

Mental health issues like trauma are common in Syrian refugees due to the conflict and violence that they experience. This mental health issue is managed by referring refugees to trauma services, providing support to decrease their feelings of isolation, educating them on common mental health symptoms, and advising them about having good nutrition and relaxation.
