A company by the name of Canon was developed on August 10, 1937. You've probably seen 'Canon' written in large red letters a few or more times in your life. Being a global cooperation, it is a company enjoyed by many, and consumers all across are appreciative of what Canon has to offer. Yet it had to have started somewhere, and here we track down the evolution of Canon, from the beginning. It was a multinational cooperation founded in Tokyo, Japan. The company was originally named Seikikōgaku kenkyūsho up until it changed to Canon Camera Co. in 1947, but shortened to Canon Inc. in 1969.

In 1934, Canon had come out with Japan’s first 35mm focal-plane-shutter prototype camera called the Kwanon. It was very simple, but new for a lot. Goro Yoshida, was one of the main founders of Canon and also the Engineer behind this camera. While studying and understanding how cameras worked, he stated, "I just disassembled the camera without any specific plan, but simply to take a look at each part. I found there were no special items like diamonds inside the camera. The parts were made from brass, aluminum, iron and rubber. I was surprised that when these inexpensive materials were put together into a camera, it demanded an exorbitant price. This made me angry.' This same year the company had changed their logo as well as their name to "Kwanon,"being the name of the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. The name “embodied the Company’s vision of creating the best cameras in the world.”

This camera incorporated technology from Nikon in order for it to be more advanced and likeable for consumers. At the time, a very cool feature was, the viewfinder was a “box type” designed so it could pop up when the button was pressed. Having another camera that was loved by many consumers, Canon was looking ahead to a bright future.

Another camera that had caught the eye of many, was the Canonflex, introduced in May 1959. It was Canon's first 35 mm SLR (single-lens reflex) camera. Original features were inspired by the rangefinder, whereas many new features also lead to the fame of this camera. Those features included, a base mounted, flap tipped, advance lever for the left hand thumb. The T setting occurs if you are to shift a little lever under the shutter, releasing a collar to the left before clicking the button. This feature however was unmarked, but it was still something to dazzle buyers. The Canonflex has a cloth shutter-curtain unlike the contemporary rangefinder Canons, metal wasn't considered necessary being protected by the mirror from the sun. Another interesting feature was a self-timer with a fold out key. Canon was evolving very quickly, and easily reaching a global scale.

In January 1961, another model had been released, called the Canonet. The company now wanted to branch out and search for easy-to-use devices. Just framing your shot and capturing the moment was the new way of taking a picture, instead of doing a lot on settings. Or you could simply use the built-in light meter for adjusting the image. If canonet was set on automatic, it wouldn't shoot until the setting isn't right for the light available, saving a lot of film. Just as the unit went on sale in Tokyo, Japan, their week supply had been sold out in less than two hours! This canonet was however replaced with an advanced one by the next year, but I wanted to share this one because it was the start of more advanced and easy-to-use technology from Canon.

The Canon AE-1 was introduced in April 1976. This camera ended up becoming one of the most popular ones in the world because of one reason, it was an amazing camera. The Canon AE-1 had only the features needed to create great photos, not any extra junk features incorporated like in the present. If you set A on lens and program and then shoot, red aperture LED's would be seen in the finder. Original FD lenses, did not rotate in the mounting process; instead, a locking ring was used to do so. This was often criticized as being slow, especially by competing camera companies. The instructions didn't require so many pages, they were simple and straightforward. New lenses included fish eye, tilt and shrink, and the best part was they were not very expensive to buy. Overall The Canon AE-1 was a major development point for canon in their making of cameras.

On March 2, 1987, another camera called the EOS 650 was born. This camera currently has 4.4/5 ratings. It included the latest technology such as, a micro-computer, and a Canon-developed BASIS sensor for high-precision AF. Shooting ability also became faster and it was very easy to not miss shots because of delays. Operation was also becoming easier as it was progressing year by year. New flash effects were created for this camera, and it seems that many people enjoyed that. You can also see the structure of this camera looks quite modern, and I guess that was a goal of the creators and engineers, to develop a more develop a more modern structure of a camera. Canon AE-1 was just another great camera appreciated by many, and it was made into a modern design which definitely impacted future designs as well.

This camera came on the market in July 1995. The EOS DCS 3 was a different and unique one. It was like a mashup of Canon's older EOS-1N, and Kadok's NC2000e digital camera attachment on the back. This camera like the previous ones, had full compatibility with all EF lenses making it easy for consumers that already had some sort of Canon in the past. You can attach the camera to a computer and transport your images from the camera to the computer using one of the special software drivers provided by Kodak and use other software to edit images. This camera also included the ability to record sound with the built-in microphone in the camera and play sound files through computer system. As mentioned earlier, another component was the back attachment, and this had many features. Just a few of them are, a tripod socket at the very bottom, Two controls - one setting the camera back SCSI ID; the other deletes the most recent image from the PCMCIA card. Also, the back had a liquid crystal display (LCD) which showed you status and control information, and much more fascinating details that is far from my knowledge and understanding however.

The Canon EOS C300 was announced and available since January 2012. Earning the win of the 2012 TIPA award (Technical Image Press Association) for best professional video camera, it is known for being made beyond the demanding needs of cinema industry professionals. It was provided this name and status because of Canon's expertise, and decades of experience designing sensors, lenses, image processing and design to the world of motion picture capture. It was also as people say, highly simple to use. For this camera you could use previous EF lenses yet also add in some third party accessories to make an outstanding production. Key features were that, although this camera appeared to very large, it was incredibly light weight. It had 3 built in ND filters to create a very fascinating view, Wi-Fi remote control shooting capabilities were also created, it had high sensitivity, so low noise happened in videos, and much more. Overall the Canon EOS C300 had become Canon's most improved model up to date, and it changed the way users viewed video production because of its amazing qualities. Canon stated "Leave No Story Untold" when bringing out this camera, to represent that it would capture every moment.

The near future. When it comes to more this and next year, I don't think we will be coming to much of a major difference in the production of cameras. Rumors have leaked of another Canon camera that will be just as efficient as the most advanced camera up to date. It will apparently be called Canon Rebel T6 (EOS 1300/Kiss X80). A camera with a few tweaks and improvements.

However when we look into the far future, I believe we have some interesting inventions to be made. Stepping out of our current technological limits, models have been made to show what Canon is willing to develop for people. Looking at these different structures, I can tell many are in for a treat. One of these models, I think the left one (looks like blow dryer) in the front, is told to be a wonder camera. One which keep shots in focus at all times, even while moving around your camera. It is capable of snapping macro photos or zooming up to 500mm. Only records video, but at such high quality that users will can pick the best single frame at any time and use it as a still photo. These future concepts were shown in, Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China.

Beginning as a very small company in Japan by Goro Yoshida, who wanted to further understand how cameras worked, Canon ended up reaching a global scale in a few years. Their goal was to create a camera which will satisfy people. His cameras were becoming more and more known by others, and the company was selling out very quick. This led to a major development point for Canon, as they wanted to create advanced and modern models for their consumers to use. Canon was continuously winning awards for having the best cameras, and people's ratings have allowed them to maintain around a 4.5/5. Currently Canon is further developing their technology and trying to make it much better for the future, hoping to stay at their current status.
