Working: The grade folders are really working for my kids. There are a number of kids that have really used the folder to help organize what they need to work on. We get to celebrate the small victories that would otherwise go unnoticed.
Improve: The CNN/Ted Talks is not going well in my class. I may need help with a better way to implement and talk about the video.

Working: The camaraderie in my Bear Time is fantastic. These kids are almost always working on homework or helping each other learn (and not cheating!)! They are motivated and eager to do well in their classes.

Improve: This is not specific to my BT necessarily, but there are A LOT of kids skipping BT in general. Word gets around! I think it's hard for teachers to catch every skipper. Maybe someone in the Attendance office could run a report each day to catch outliers? Or maybe that's too much work. Either way, skipping is becoming an issue!

Working: Grades and tutoring each other. My kiddos really work on their homework and rely on others to help them. There is a camaraderie among small groups with in the class and we occasionally get to talk about life lessons if they bring things up.

Not Working: Silent Reading, they do it because I make them, but they hate it and it can be a battle. CNN 10, some kids watch it but others do not. The kids report that this is just a nothing class, so motivating them to do anything is a battle of wills. Their main complaint is that this class is not graded, and they feel it is a free period.

Working: My Bear Time students love the cnn10 on Thursdays and I must admit that it is pretty interesting. Also reviewing their grades also is helping them adjust accordingly in those classes that need the most attention by the student.

Not Working: While some students are working on HW or studying, I feel like students many times say they do not have anything so then I redirect them to read.

Working: Using the weekly grade sheet as an incentive has helped. Several students have expressed a desire to pull up close grades or reach out to teachers.
Not Working: I have a large group of students failing multiple classes, and yet they do not bring anything to do. Because I do not know of anything they can do for their classes, a lot of them waste their time. I feel I have no way to implement a study hall if they do not take the initiative to bring or do work.

Working: The weekly grade sheet is working well with my students and they express shame when they know I am going to nag them about some of their classes so they are motivated to bring their grades up.

Not Working: I love the calendar for common assessments but some content areas (specifically by teacher) are not giving them on the same day so I have kids that I am telling to study for a test and some know it is upcoming while some say they took it last week. The inconsistency makes it difficult for me to enforce them working on something if they say they have nothing.
