One thing the book really emphasized is to always trust god. Ed Thomas was a Christian and a strong believer in God. When ever he faced adversity or problems Ed always said that it was God's plan and to just trust it's in his will for this to happen. This is the attitude I am trying to take when I faced my day to day problems. I can relate to this book because I have a coach who has influenced me in many ways. My "Ed Thomas" is  Coach McCauley. Coach McCauley is my high school football coach and mentor. He teaches his players the same things Ed Thomas did. When I was reading the book I could imagine the situations Ed Thomas had with his players and compare them to simular situations I have had with Coach McCauley. The tornado was a category five. It took out the entire south side of the town.
