I cannot believe it, but I am starting my 20th year of teaching! WHAT? I'm not old enough for that to be possible! It has been a while since I taught 6th grade, but I'm excited and I have heard such wonderful things about you all!

This summer I made myself have fun. Which sounds like a no-brainer, but I'm kind of a little bit nuts about my work. BALANCE is my new life goal, so fun was necessary to round it all out! I learned that I can have fun AND work hard. Who knew?

   Hi, my name is Austin Choi and well, obviously I'm going into 6th grade. I can't believe it, I still remember the day when I was a first grader thinking about the tall, mature 6th graders but here I am, in sixth grade. I have a brother and a sister named Albert and Elizabeth. Albert is going into eighth grade and Elizabeth is going into Kindergarten. I also have two dogs named Bert and Ernie. :-) Ernie is going to turn three (in human years) in August. While Bert is still a puppy who is only six months old. Ernie is a Miniature Schnauzer and Bert is a Coton de Tulear. Bert sort of looks like a Maltese or a Bichon. Ernie is German and Bert is originally from Madagascar.

    This summer I went to South Korea. My family is originally from Korea. Our family goes there every other summer but this time we went two summers in a row. We stay at our grandparents house in Seoul. Seoul is the capital of South Korea and has an astonishing 9.99 million people. That is more than New York City! I had tons of fun there. We also went to Japan for four days. We toured around many famous places, mostly in Tokyo.

In Korea there are about 50,000,000 people but the country is only about the size of New York State! (New York has 14,000,000 people) Therefore there are many skyscrapers. I learned about the lifestyle of Koreans. (Working harder when you have a disadvantage)

My name is Matthew Rohan (as it says above) and I'm going into sixth grade. I look forward to learning about new topics especially math.

Over my summer I did exciting things including baseball and visiting family. We had many baseball tournaments. My team won one tournament but got third in another. I also went to Michigan. At Michigan we celebrated the fourth of July and then also celebrated my great-grandmother's ninety-ninth birthday (wow!). Later we went on going to California but unfortunately my grandmother passed away. We had to stop our trip and fly to Colorado for the funeral. After a long week we returned home. I look forward to the new school year and will see you soon!

Hi, I'm Elly Schenck! I never had you when you where a 3rd grade teacher at Harman but heard great things. I have two siblings. Emma is 13 and Evan is 8. Just by looking at this you can probably tell I'm the middle child, but before you come to a conclusion about me being the middle child, listen to this. I'm stuck in the middle of every thing but I'm a problem solver and caring. I have 3 pets; two hamsters and one dog. My hamster is named Fernando and my brother's is Num Nums . My dog, Faun, was a breeder dog and was thrown out a car window. My aunt and uncle found her and took her home and gave her to my grandma. My grandma couldn't take care of her so we took her just this summer. This summer I went to Illinois for the forth of July. In Illinois we went to the zoo and saw many animals. There was an animal that looked like it should have been in Star Wars. Even though it was a herbivore, it was still scary. It was supper fun hanging with the animals and playing with them. I also went to the Kettering water park with my family. It was supper fun to fly down the water slides. There was one guy that skid across the water all the way into the other pool. My siblings both play Pokémon Go and my sister Emma ran into a stop sign while trying to catch a Squirtle.
I'm looking forward to sixth grade! :)

Hi, my name is Clara Smith and I am looking forward to this year. This summer I went to Rehoboth Beach DE, Clearwater Beach FL, and Lancaster PA. While I was at Rehoboth Beach we went to the beach and boardwalk. On Rehoboth Beach there are multiple watch towers from World War 2.

When I was in Clearwater Beach, Florida we went to the beach and pier. There were lots of palm trees and birds. The sand was super soft and you could see fish swimming in the clear blue water. When I was in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, we had a party for my grandparents' 40th anniversary!!

The rest of my summer was in Ohio. We went to Kings Island and the pool a lot! Well that concludes my summer! I look forward to this school year!

Hi, my name is Meemo Hoey and
I am greatly looking forward to this year with my class and Mrs.Walther! I am 11 and my birthday is in December. I have 2 brothers, Preston is 13 and Zach is 8. They both play select baseball and we all ride horses. I had a great summer, it was a 'stay-cation'...but I did get to go to see my brothers' play baseball alot , went to movies, went to lots of Dragons Baseball games, rode my bike, volunteered at the shelter, swam at the DCC and OCC almost everyday, watched my friend compete on the Oakwood Dolphins swim team for the first time and that was super exciting, I went to acting camp, tennis camp, and SICSA Animal Advocate Camp. I also went to a cheer camp with my squad and friends in Centerville. This season I will begin my 5th consecutive year of side line cheer for football and my 4th year of competition cheer. Unfortunately, this summer, one of my little brother's turtle died, so we had to bury him, his name was Floki. My bunnies did not enjoy the summer heat, they just laid down the whole time.
Congrats to my mom that finally got Facebook so that she can buy home items off of the Jill's list...that has been fun to do with her! I know it sounds pretty funny that I'm talking about that but you can get some pretty fun stuff on the Jill's list! Maybe next year I could go some were ,like Florida, or Hawaii. My dog Zeus is a Bernese Mountain Dog. He loved this summer, we have gone on a lot of walks even though his breed originated in the snow 24/7!

Well, that concludes my story about my summer 2016 and how all of these things helped me grow! I am really looking forward to this new school year!

Hello, my name is Emery May Gowdy. This summer I spent 2 weeks in Italy. It was awesome. How the people lived and all the elaborate buildings are amazing. My Aunt and Uncle live there. They were our tour guides. My cousin Amanda can speak Italian pretty well, so can my Aunt kim.
Italy was so cool because of all the old buildings. They are so big and to think they made them before all this technology. I saw so many cool things like the Duomo, Lake Como, 100 old churches,Bergamo, Verona, the canal district of Milan,San Siro, and a bunch of other things. Soon we had to leave Italy. noooooooo!!!! Then 3 days after we went up to my great Aunt Jan's.
My great Aunt lives in the mountains. She owns two horses and my sister loves to ride them. up in the mountains we cook on the fire and take hikes. but like every thing we had to leave.
We went to my bestamas and great grandma house. I have 4 grandmas there names are Grandma, Great Grandma, Bestama and Leighann. My great grandma is 99.We gave them a visit and then went home. The rest of my summer has been normal. Cleaning, swimming, summer homework, and playing with my friends. Now it is almost school. I am excited for 6 grade.

Hello! My name is Katy Butler and I have had a very exciting summer this year.

My family and I have gone on three vacations. Three! We've gone to 2 weddings and 1 family reunion. We went to 1 wedding in New Jersey and another in Minnesota.

We went to Florida for a family reunion, and there we went tubing, fishing, kayaking, and sighted animals such as stingrays, iguanas, and starfish. Also Bella got stung by 3 times by a jellyfish on the back of her neck and we realized that she was also allergic to something in the salt water.

In Minnesota we went canoeing while Amelia, my 7 year old sister (seen below) yelled, "PUT YOUR BACKS INTO IT!!!", while sitting at the back of the canoe with no paddle in hand. :)

We also went to a drawing camp, a tennis camp, and did swim team. Overall, I had a very fun summer and am looking forward to sixth grade.

Hello! My name is Bella Butler and I'm very excited to be going into 6th grade this year. This summer was very fun! We went to New Jersey, Minnesota, and Florida. It was very busy, but I can't complain! We visited so many exciting places and did so many fun things, I can barely keep track!

We went to Florida for a family reunion. It was fun to see all our family members. We had a lot of fun tubing in the bay of Key Largo.

In Minnesota we had a lot of fun dancing at the wedding and taking walks in the city. We also went canoeing in a lake and even escaped from a trap room!

Before the wedding in New Jersey, we stayed at my Grandma's house and had fun there! Then we drove 3 hours to New Jersey and had a very exciting time at the wedding!

My summer was very exciting and fun, and I am very excited to start 6th grade! How was your summer?

Hello! My name is Sarah I am orignaly from Egypt but, I was born in Canada and, now been living in the USA for the last 9 years. Well my summer has been in Oakwood most of the time but, still great. I have been playing sports over the summer like indoor basketball and swimming both with a team and now starting soccer. I'm usually at the pool with my friends. Or if I'm not at the pool I'm usually at home with my baby brother Adam who will be a year and five days old when school starts! Speaking of brothers I have two, Adam and Mahmoud. Mahmoud is 15 years old big difference right! Me and my mom are the only girls in my family and I am the middle child in the family. Summer in Oakwood is great but, also visiting different places in the world I was lucky enough to go on a vacation. Before summer started I when on a vacation to Jamaica for 6 days that was awesome there was a beach, nice food, and nice entertainment. All of my family live in Egypt expect my uncle on my moms side. Over all my summer has been the best I can't wait for 6th grade to start!😀

Hello my name is Tripp Martindale and I have definitely had a very lacrosse filled summer, (if you don't know lacrosse is a sport.)

I played on a lacrosse travel team which led to 3 quick trips to Chicago, Cincinnati, and Louisville. In these trips I practically did nothing except for the tournaments besides in Chicago where my dad and I went to a cubs game which was awesome by the way. But my real summer vacation was a trip to Chitauqua, New York, it is a very old town with very narrow roads due to the fact that it was built in 1789, because of that you can't drive too much so people would have to bike around everywhere. Also, they have one of the top 10 oldest basketball courts in America. In Chitaqua there is a huge lake so me and my cousins fished a lot in it. But after that it was time to head home. But that wasn't all I did this summer my family and I went to a Coldplay concert (a band) which was my first concert, and what can i say about it? That was INSANE almost everyone in Nationwide Arena was going crazy!

My summer was a great one but, I think I'm ready to go back to school!

My summer was most definitely filled with soccer.I played it a ton and went to Old River to play on Mondays. But that wasn't the big part of my vacation. At the end of break I went out west with my family for two weeks.We flew into Las Vegas and spent the night in the New York New York Hotel.We then visited The Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, and Bryce National Park, They were all great but I liked Zion the best because in my opinion it had the best views. We stayed at a total of 5 places.It was one of my favorite vacations ever!

Hi! My name is Peyton Deutsch, I am 11 years old and I can't wait to go to school on Tuesday and meet you.

My summer was fantastic. I mostly had acting, singing, and dancing this summer. In the beginning of summer I was really only watching TV on my couch and eating snacks. Then one day my mom asked me if I was interested in doing diving. I thought it might of been fun, and so did my sister Parker. Parker is the one right next to me in the photo. She is 10 and loves to play soccer and play with her friends. We started diving in June. It took up most of the month, but it was a lot of fun. We had championships later that month, and I was the only one on my team there. I got 8th place in my age group.

A couple of weeks later I had a 2 week camp called Red Hotz and Lollipops, and 2 days later I started Muse Machine. The performance was at the Victoria Theatre, which was really neat.

Other things I did this summer included vacationing at Lake Michigan, going to Kings Island, and helping my parents with my new baby brother, Simon. He was born about six months ago and in that time period I learned how to hold him, feed him, and change his diaper. That's always "fun!"

This year I am looking forward to the 6th grade play, learning to play trombone, and working hard to get straight A's.

I'm super excited to be in 6th grade this year. I'll see all of you on Tuesday!

In July I went to 4 different places. For the forth of July, I went to My aunt's lake house in Indiana. They have a really big firework show out on the lake. The next week, we went to St. Louis for a tennis tournament. My team got second place. The next week we went to my grandma and grandpa's lake house in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. the water was 53 degrees cold, but we still jumped in. Finally, we went to a lake house my grandpa rents in Virginia. The water was so much warmer than Michigan's. The water was ninety degrees!

Hi my name is Kara Hamblin and i had a great summer! At first it was a lot of fun and I went to the pool almost every day. Then I went on my first trip. I went to my lake house up at Lake Erie and it was so much fun. We also had some visitors, my Aunt Patty came from Seattle for a week in June, then my moms best friend also came from Seattle! I have been there five times because my parents grew up there. After that we went camping at Lakeside,Ohio and stayed for four days in a hot tent, but it was still fun! After all the fun ended i thought I would be back at the pool every day but then my parents told me we were going to Kentucky for four days!!! It was so cool we went to Mammoth Cave the biggest cave in the world!!! It was awesome. When we went underground it was 49 degrees so we had to wear sweaters and we were at lest 200 feet deep underground! Our last day was the most fun because we went zip lining! We were going over mountains and rivers and I am not exaggerating!!!! When we finished zip lining my sister and I jumped off a 85 foot platform! It was like bungee jumping! Although my summer was awesome I am very exited to get back into school and start learning again!

Hey my name is Sean Cassidy and this summer I went to the pool a tun and also went to Florida and saw a cold play concert. In Florida I went to the beach every day and then went to the pool there. at the beach I dug a huge hole to water and also got buried in the sand. One day I went to the beach and it was raining so there were huge under toes, me and my brother almost got swept out to sea! That's about all that happened at the beach other wise we just were swimming deep in the ocean. I also passed a soccer ball on sand with my brother and uncle. At the pool me and my brother would pass a ball and we also saw some shooting stars. At the Coldplay concert me and my friend Tripp got light up wrist bands that lit up to the beat of the song. the concert went on for 3 hours and when we got in the car we didn't move for 20 minutes. We got home at 1:00
and I slept in till 11:30. Overall my summer has been a blast! and i cant wait for 6th grade

Icelandic adventure

My name is Maarten and this summer I went to Iceland. On our trip, we did lots of things, like seeing water falls and petting puffins. But one of the things I liked the most was going to a glacial lagoon. We went in the water with little inflatable rafts. We wore these big puffy suits and even had our jackets under neath them to stay extra warm. When we got in to the rafts we went out very fast and did that for a while. Then we got to a huge glacier where we could see chunks of ice break off. Then we went for a while and pulled up to a small chunk of ice with a seal on it. We got about 6 -8 feet from it, and when we did it jiggled around its fat to get off the ice and in to the water away from us. Then we stopped at what seemed to be a open spot with only one piece of ice in the whole area that the guide plucked out of the water and let us pass around so we could each get a turn to hold it. Then we saw another seal that had the saw reaction to seeing us as the last one. We saw some other bits of ice then got out of the boat to go to our car and dive to our next bed and breakfast place. That was only one thing we did in Iceland out of many things, but i enjoyed doing that thing a lot.

My name is Spencer and I went to camp Hayo - Went - Ha a camp on the third most beautiful lake in the world! It helped me grow by getting back in shape for soccer and school. Hi, i'm Jason Purks and this summer, I went to Florida. Florida was really fun because i got to hang out with my family, And my grandparents! I spent a lot of time in the ocean, And playing soccer on the beach with my dad. I also went to the pool, But not as much as the beach. About three years ago we met some people that also live in Ohio, And ever since we have been in Florida, Hanging out with them. We also spent a lot of time shopping mainly because my mom had her birthday, And we celebrated her birthday right there in Florida. We went to a really nice place to eat for a birthday, and the food was great. And when we left we had to wake up at 4:00 AM. I hope you enjoyed reading my story, And i' exited to read yours!

I went to Kentucky for a week at a boy scout camp. I mostly worked on merit badges but i also got requirements done for ranks. Then the last night my parents picked me up and we stayed at a hotel. The next day we drove the rest of the way to South Carolina. When we got to my grandparents beach house we hung out and went out the beach. All week I swam in the ocean or was surfing. Then home and laying around and waking up at 10:00.

Hi,my name is Ella, and this summer i did a lot of different thing such as going to Florida. The first time i went to Florida this summer was the week after school went out we went to Rosemary beach Florida with Lizzie Stack, Lizzie's mom, Lauren Lunne, Lauren's mom, my mom, my sister, and I. The second time i went, i went to Watercolor Beach in Florida just with my family though. Also this summer i went to northern ohio for a weekend with my moms side of the family. Hello, my name is Kelley. This summer I had a lot of fun. I mostly stayed home and watched tv, but for a week my family went to South Carolina. In South Carolina we sat in the sweltering heat most of the day watching my brother play baseball. It was so hot but I managed to survive. I also ended up staying with my grandparents and cousins in Kentucky, while the rest of my family was in Georgia. Lastly we visited California later in the summer. We went to San Fransisco and Monterey Bay. In Monterey we saw a lot of seals and sea lions. We also ended up going to Monterey Bay aquarium
All and all i had a great summer.
