Prior to the lesson, my students were strong with their 2D shape identification. I think this lesson allowed them to apply their knowledge in a more exciting and authentic way. I would like to build on this, and think that a similar activity targeting 3D shapes would be fun to do.

Yes, I think the camera was a awesome way of tying their basic knowledge of shapes into a real world setting. It would be great to use cross-curricular. For example, in Science a student might pictures to aid in observation of an object so they can compare what the object looked like prior to a change. In Math you might take pictures to reinforce problem solving, and counting strategies, and like we did during our shape walk to make connections to the real world.

I loved collaborating with everyone, to hear how we could best serve the needs of our children. It was very helpful to talk with Ms. Akers after instruction. This helped guide my decisions in what I should focus on next with my class.

This lesson taught me that my students needed the review of shapes. I have started subitizing with shapes, and have taught a variety of small group lessons with the focus of shapes and their attributes. I feel confident that my students have grown from this instruction.

I think there are definitely other ways to incorporate the iPad camera. Videoing students using strategies for math problem solving tasks, to later show to the group. This could also be used for social skills/problem solving teaching. Having students see themselves in action.
