BLOG POST: What I have learnt about RESPECT through my journey in the world of PERFORMANCE!

Respect is defined as; a way of treating or thinking about something or someone.

To me respect is valuing each moment in time while preforming to the best of your abilities. It is living with purpose to ensure all actions you bring forward within your circumstance have meaning and positive intention to cultivate knowledge and growth within every moment and opportunity you are presented. Respect is bringing maximum thought, execution, and effort to each and every day!

Through my journey in the world of performance I have learnt several key lessons from coaches, teammates and competitors that helped me to shape this definition of respect that I can now apply to my life as a professional.

First lesson being “respect all fear none.” This saying resonates with me most in the fact that the underdog always has a chance to cause an upset. With hard work and maximum effort anything can happen. Performance taught me that it is respectful to always preforming to the best of your abilities.

Second lesson, “early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable!” As an athlete and/or a professional time management is incredibly important. Showing up on schedule is how you respect your co-worker, teammates and anyone involved.

Third and final highlighted lesson on respect that I learnt in my journey through performance is around the topics of passion, purpose and self-respect. Passion is enjoyment and undefined love, but humans

are geared to live a life with purpose. Purpose is what brings the sense of fulfillment and peace to our souls. It is incredibly important that we are honest with ourselves when finding this goal or career purpose that sets our soul on-fire because it ultimately leads to our quality of life. I relate it to the quote “how you do anything is how you do everything.” Once you find your purpose you will be able to wake up with drive, passion and intentionality each day to go further than you ever imagined you could. I believe following these individual paths of purpose is true self-respect and that each of us owes it to ourselves to be able to wake up to a life of intention allowing us to bring maximum thought, execution, and effort to each and every day.

I am extremely grateful to have learnt these lessons about respect through my journey in the world of performance and hope that they may resonate with others to not only help better ourselves as individuals but the entire world around us.

#RespectYourUniverse
#BeautifulTough
#VancouverCanada @Ryu_apparel
