Narrative Story: Forgotten

It was five years ago when something tragic happened to us, Greasers. I heard a faintly scream from behind my back. I was with Johnny so it made things lot less scary than it would normally be. I thought it was the wind so I continued walking with Johnny down the sidewalk to nowhere it seemed like. Johnny and I had a few conversations here and there.
Johnny said, "So Ponyboy, you gonna meet me at the gas station with Dally tomorrow? Only us Greasers, none of the Madras people."
I replied with, "Be careful, Police might recognize you but maybe, y'all rude sometimes to me. Like when Darry slapped me really hard. I thought he'll never love me again." Before I could say another word, I heard gunshots from the distance.
I said to Johnny, "Should we go check it out? It might be Dally playing with heaters again." He didn't reply, he just nodded and jogged to where the noise came from. While we were going there, I thought to myself. What that screaming? Was it because of those gunshots? While I was thinking to myself, I ran into Johnny.
"Watch where you going," Johnny said.
"My bad," I replied with. Here we are, a neighborhood that seems abandoned. There was no way the gunshot came from here, and I was certain about it too.
From the corner of my eye, I saw a body. It didn't seem to be moving, and blood was dripping out of it.
"WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE, NOW!" A gunshot came again, this time we were in a trap. A bullet came near my ear, and I heard the whistle of the wind. It was ear piercing and I got Johnny to stay low on the ground.
I whispered, "We in a trap, we have to stay cover until it is safe." I thought to myself, why would someone do this. Then it all hit me, it was a Soc. It was no crocked one. It was a Soc actually trying to kill us. While we were in an abandoned house, I looked out the window. It seemed so peaceful and quiet, but out there hidden. There is a terrifying Soc hunting us down. Next, I saw another house, but not abandoned. It seemed like there were some little children. Probably four or five of them inside crying quietly. I looked at Johnny.
"We have to get those little children out of here," I said in a quiet tone.
"We have to as well, Darry will definitely not be happy when it comes to us dead. Go in a zig-zag so they can't shoot us directly. GO!"
We were on the run for it, in the pattern Johnny told me. Johnny and I were at the house, the door was locked. From my instincts, I went to the back hoping the shooter wasn't there. Thankfully he wasn't and we got in the house with no damage. I saw the little kids first, they stopped crying when I got to them for some reason.
"We going to get you out. You here us!" I didn't even think that the kids knew English. One by one I put them into our arms. I had two and Johnny had the other two. Johnny fell with the two babies in his hand from nothing. Nothing tripped him and it was kind of funny. There was a huge hill in front of us and it never seems too easy. Especially when there is a mad Soc on us. Like we did when we got to this house, we all had the same idea to use the same plan.
Johnny and I went on a run for it, the hill was extremely hard to go run on it, especially when you have 100 pounds on your arms. A gunshot rang my ear, in seconds I heard a scream. Not a high pitch scream, a scream I heard from Johnny. He was hit, not from the leg or arm. He was shot in his back and blood started pouring out of his body like a waterfall. I got the other two babies and dragged Johnny up the hill. I was already tired in the first 10 seconds, it felt like I ran a marathon. Thankfully not much longer, police and Dally arrived. They helped gather Johnny and the babies to the hospital. On the other hand, Johnny was on a run from the Grim Reaper, his spinal cord was badly fractured. All of the gang came to see Johnny in the hospital. I thought after all of this I was going to be put into jail. Days and days later, Johnny lost a piece of his life and sadly died. Now fast forward 5 years, it is never the same. All of the Greasers miss Johnny and Dally, and at least they died being a hero, and to this day the Soc was never found

By:Colin Ha
To: S.E Hilton

The story reflects off the theme heroics/courage because the story is about Ponyboy and Johnny running away from home. They hear a gunshot from far away and decides to go check it out. While there, there was a Soc there with a heater (gun). While they were in shelter from the gunshots, they encounter little children in another house. Finally, they save the children but when they were running away from the Soc. Johnny gets shot in the back, fracturing his spinal cord and dies. It shows heroics and courage because while they were hiding from the shooter. They were able to save the children from getting killed/shot from the Soc.
It was heroic because they saved the children from being killed. It also took a lot of courage to run from the killer and run from the abandoned house in the open. Not to mention to check out where the gunshot came from at the beginning and decided to go where they heard the sound. They also knew it was a shooting happening, also it reflects the theme because they risked their lives for the children. Also, this story was after when Johnny killed Bob, running away not knowing what you will meet.

I chose this story because this was supposed to be the original scene for the book, but the author decided to choose another scene. Which was the burning church scene, basically the same purpose but different setting.
