This extinction occurred about 440 million years ago. The cause is continental drift and subsequent climate change. Although, going into the full story, this might have happened in two waves to cause such a great extinction of 85% of all living species. Brachiopods, trilobites, graptolites and moss animals were the main species killed.

Asteroid strikes, volcanic activity, climate change, and microbes were most likely the cause of this, but it's mostly unknown. It killed off marine invertebrates, land plants, plankton, insects and all life.
