My name is Claire Grenier and I am a mixed Métis and settler scholar from the Niagara Region. Currently, I am pursuing an MFA in Criticism and Curatorial Practice at OCADu. My research interests surround archives, repatriation, museum structures, and different ways of knowing. In terms of art, my speciality is using collage (or other visual mediums - I'm always interested in experimenting!) as a way of translating/playing with theoretical concepts. I describe my work as "arts and crafts academia," or, more professionally, research creation.

For example, here is a work I just finished for an upcoming art show on the "symbiocene."

Environmental philosopher Glenn Albrecht came up with this term as a rebuke to the anthropocene and the capitalocene. Given that each of these terms describe a societal state of being, I was reminded of Bosch's triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights. This work of mine, called The Delights of the Symbiocene, is also in three parts as an homage to him. In representing the capitalocene, symbiocene, and anthropocene, I sought to give each panel a distinct visual identity while still retaining harmony and continuity through the collage by using some of the same source materials in each section. I wanted to focus on Glenn Albrecht's argument that, while we have the tools to move into a symbiocene and know that it could save our earth, we have yet to internalize the "interconnectedness of life and all living things."

My process mainly involves drawing/painting, creative writing, collecting, urban exploration and sculpture.

More recently, I've become interested in art as a social practice, merging the process of art making as a collaborative inquiry amongst specific groups and communities. My works in the past have concerned labour standards, identity, spirituality, material culture, sports, and the apocalypse.

I'm returning from an exchange program at HDK-Valand in Sweden where I began a series of works using camouflage netting as a material focus. This research consisted of local stories from factory workers who were affected by the bankruptcy of the Saab Automobile, and how Saab is also a major exporter in the military arms trade. Such information became a precursor to direct the focus of this work towards the civil end of societies caught in the crosshairs of military production, and how military innovations impact civil society and cultural practices. The work explores Swedish sub car-enthusiast cultures like Raggare and more obvious global impacts of migration and domesticity.

My art often begins with a memory, dream, or feeling—something that longs to be expressed in a different form. My practice is driven by interpreting my experiences and capturing the intersections of different worlds. I am guided by signs and frequently create new sign systems, often subtle and perceptible only as associations.

I am fascinated by myths, mysticism, languages, geology, and human interactions. The Anthropocene and human-induced geological processes have been significant themes in my work. The pieces presented here reflect that period of my artistic journey.

My practice is pretty interdisciplinary, including digital and physical fabrication, game deisgn, physical computing as well as AI and natural language processing.

My current research revolves around the use of Artificial Intelligence in narrative design, specifically through the medium of text-adventure games. I’m looking into creating new interactive ways of consuming and gamifying books and other print media.

I’ve attached an image of one of my past projects titled “ikebana” which is a reference to the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The sculpture is a kinetic bonsai tree that moves its branches in response to light stimuli and physical touch - the branches articulate via servo motors programmed with an Arduino microcontroller.

I'm in the 4th year Sculpture/Installation undergraduate program in OCAD. A lot of my work combines different kinds of mediums like installations, graphic design, 3D design, fashion design and interactive media.

One of the recent projects I created was a prototype of a modular outfit which can be "designed" by the wearer and be customized by attaching different parts by the wearer.

The work was shown by allowing viewers to design a modular shirt. The shirt had two elements: multiple stitched loops and a long elastic cord. Viewers were able to loop the elastic cords to create different kinds of shapes, silhouettes and patterns.

After the design the viewer/designer was able to wear it and I 3D scanned them using my phone. This created a quick 3D model, which was able to be seen through AR (augmented reality). This was all done through the device everyone carries with them everyday, our phone. If viewers used an iPhone I was able to simply send them the file and the viewers were able to keep and view the 3D model without the need for any app.

I am really excited to learn new things and work together with other people to create new amazing work!

As an artist, I explore diverse creative expressions, experimenting across various mediums from drawing and painting to coding, animation, and photography. Integrating traditional and digital elements, my work reflects a blend of fine arts practices and my studies in design. Rooted in storytelling and the expression of emotions, my art draws from personal experiences, reflecting themes of femininity, mental health, connections to nature, and identity.

I have included a photo of my work: "The Life of a Shirt." It is a photography series showcasing the upcycling of a shirt through embroidery. The cyclical series of digital photographs were transferred onto fabric and embroidered with flowers as an installation at OCAD U. This is part of my practice that I really love—incorporating different mediums and playing with the digital and analogue together to tell a story.

This piece is titled, Nest (Stoneware, copper, sterling silver, found organic materials) and is the centrepiece of the body of work, relating to ideas of lifecycles (being born into, leaving, building afresh this most intimate space), lived experience, and physical labour as an expression of deep care.

When I applied to the Music Academy for the Audiovisual Composition program, I explained that I have always “seen” music since childhood, a phenomenon known as synesthesia. Over the past ten years, I've created live visuals for various musical genres, orchestras, and bands, making music “visible.”

I earned my MA in Contemporary Art from EKA, where my primary focus was blending the physical and digital worlds, exploring their tangible and ephemeral boundaries. I worked on projects in VR and XR, with a particular passion for creating “metahumans,” as I called them.

However, at some point, I began to miss the tangibility and imperfection of the physical world, and I longed to create something with my own hands. Now, in my second year of Craft Studies at EKA, I started with glass but soon returned to my comfort zone of textiles. From my teenage years, needlework such as embroidery and sewing was my main hobby during the long Estonian evenings. I rediscovered the joy of these crafts during my pregnancy leave, becoming an obsessive knitter.

I am currently analyzing the significance of (hand)crafts in people’s lives, examining both their psychological and cultural impacts.

I am Erica, studying Design Thinking and Digital Marketing at the University of Tartu Pärnu College.

For the past four years, I have been working as a freelance marketer, specializing in brand consistency, content strategy, creation, and management on TikTok.

My most recent project involved researching the need for a Communication Strategy at Tõnismäe Studio through the Service Design process. The project aimed to improve internal communication, ensure alignment of visions, enhance employee collaboration, and analyze the organization’s resistance to creating a communication strategy. I have included the visual of the rebranded website from that project.

As a creative person, I’m research-oriented and passionate about utilizing design as a powerful force for positive change, reshaping human behavior for the betterment of the world. I’m excited to collaborate with everyone and look forward to the inspiring projects we will create together.

Hello everyone! My name is Hanna, and I am currently furthering my education at Tallinn University of Technology, specializing in Service Design to obtain my Master's degree. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Textile Art and have worked as a fashion designer for nearly two decades. Over the past four years, I have been an instructor at both the EKA Textile Department and the EKA Open Academy 😉

My recent studies have involved various service design projects. From mapping knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to emergency preparedness in Estonia to researching how a chatbot can enhance the shopping experience on an e-store.

As I plan my Master's degree, I have two main areas of interest. The first is understanding perception in the context of physical items like clothes and textiles and exploring the transition towards digital and sustainable solutions without losing the emotional significance these items provide. Clothes and textiles are not just functional; they tell our stories, help us express our identities, and convey our cultural heritage. The second area focuses on sustainability in Estonia's textile industry, particularly the challenges and needs of textile waste collection and handling, and discussing technological advancements in recycling. Hopefully, this course will help me lean towards making a decision in the direction of my first choice 😉

I recently visited Milan and the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, where I saw a fascinating interactive art installation by the artist Karina Smigla-Bobinski called Kaleidoscope. It's something I think would interest all of us: Watch the installation here.

Currently, I work on different projects, but my main work is as a mural artist. I created more than 400 square meters of different paints.

Now I'm working on a collection of ceramic lamps.

I just love travelling, noticing the small details always helped me in learning and thinking . Additionally I think my artistic expression has lot more connected to people whom i have come across in life. With 1 year of OCADU experience, 3 years of Sustainable experiences and having worked on an International eco projects, I am excited to see designs become realities which motivates me in hunt of new inspirations.

My work currently focuses on physical mediums, particularly through my brand Riina O specialising in bespoke luxury leather gloves and biomaterials R&D.

My most recent work is a land art installation “Cornuscopia” in Saaremaa – a tribute to Estonian forests.

I am always seeking to broaden the scope of my work with the next goal of joining biomaterials with technology.

The image included is of my handbags collection made of kombucha bacterial cellulose-derived SCOBY-compo material.

Started my journey in India did my bachelor in Communication Design- Animation film Making, started working on several commercial yet creative  projects in Animation production, post-production, editing and illustration. 

Together I started my own practice on experimental art and craft. Started working as assistant module designer and researcher in a PhD focused on Children's education-Teaching morals and values through indigenous proverbs. Having more inclination towards education with my Professor Co founded a Art residency and common facility place called Prime Habiture in Rundal, Rajasthan. Working on creating various storytelling and visual focused workshops and one of them is Co- Creating cards with my colleagues in EKA.

My current research-based project explores the controversial nature of invasive exotic plants. These plants thrive in environments disrupted by human activity, showing remarkable resilience to harsh weather conditions and limited nutrients.

The fact that I am currently researching is that Ailanthus altissima was introduced to France in the mid-19th century for silk production, as silkworms feed on its leaves. I plan to create a clothing that can be worn in a photographic installation set in a natural environment. I intend to design a garment that allows the body to camouflage itself within its surroundings.

From this academic year I will also be starting my doctoral journey at EKA at the Faculty of Design focusing on bridging the empathy gap in teletherapy for patients and practitioners. Other than my professional career and academia I also make music and play instruments.

I look to the structure of the net as a methodology to create self portraits, personal rituals, and energetic gestures in both a material and space conscious manner. Like a fruit net that morphs into the shape of the fruit it holds, I work across different disciplines using my body as a frame of reference to explore themes of autonomy, grief, labor, and love.

In my practice I build layers, cavities, working through breaches of media, translating and mixing processes. I see the construction of ambiguous images, mostly through graphic processes, texts, wax, and photography, as an invitation for dwelling. Recently, I've been exploring the translation of language, media, and context via narratives of hybrid, displaced identities.
