The bright ray of sunshine peeking into Phoebe’s darkened room woke her once again to start a new day. Her motivation at this point was low. She felt as if she may as well be locked up in jail for the rest of her life. It had all changed at a blink of an eye. One day she was out at the beach tanning her beach body and getting sand in her blonde hair, and then the next she was lying in her bed with nothing to do but stare at her ceiling. If only there was a solution to this madness, she thought to herself. Phoebe was willing to do whatever it took to get her life back to normal. There was no way she was going to let some virus ruin her teenage years. It was a Tuesday morning when she dragged herself out of bed, stumbled to the kitchen and then much to her disgust climbed straight back into bed. Phoebe was the type of girl that wouldn’t let an army full of soldiers stop her from getting what she wanted. Determination and confidence are her best qualities and if you know her well enough you wouldn’t hesitate to agree with this. In a crowd she would blend in with the rest, a figure common to the eye but as you get to know her, her layers breakdown and you get to see her for who she really is.

Laying in bed scrolling on her phone Phoebe comes across a post from her bestie Layla.
“MUM!” Phoebe yelled at the top of her lungs. “Look at this Mum, look!” Phoebe wore a smile that ran from ear to ear, she knew that her now boring life was going to be back to normal quicker than she could blink. Soon enough word had spread about the vaccine for the virus that was keeping Phoebe and her friends in jail. A few days went by, and she still hadn’t been notified that she was eligible to receive this vaccine. Imagine the most disappointed you have ever been and times it by 1000. That’s what Phoebe was feeling and now she really was at breaking point. She cried to her mum each day that went by without receiving the message that was “crucial” to Phoebe’s happiness. Her mum had had enough. She was a single mum raising a daughter with high expectations. At times it was difficult to contain Phoebe and her emotions, and this was definitely one of those times. Stacey, (Phoebe’s overtired mum) was doing all that she could to make this happen. It was killing Phoebe to be seeing her friends enjoying their lives while she sat in her room lonely and sad with nothing to do. Hours had passed and later that day Phoebe received a message from an anonymous number. Curious she opened it.
“FINALLY!” She had never gotten better news. She rushed around the house like a headless chicken grabbing her things to finally break free and get this vaccine.

Suddenly the nerves kicked in and she wasn’t so sure about this anymore. Sitting in that waiting room all alone, left her alone with her thoughts. She started questioning if it would actually work and how much it was going to hurt. Then she remembered why she was doing this, so she could enjoy her life and not be trapped in her room twenty four hours a day, every day. All she could do now was wait for her name to be called. People around her stopped and stared for a moment. Phoebe looked both scared but the most excited she had ever been, most people may have thought she was going crazy.

“Phoebe Parker, you’re next.” She stood up a little bit wobbly in her knees but as sturdy as ever in her walk. As quick as it happened it was over, she was vaccinated and free to do whatever she wanted. The first thing she did was facetime her bestie to tell her the news. Phoebe made her way out to the car smiling like she had just won one million dollars. TING! Phoebe was practically glued to the side of her car. She was confused and shocked.
“What’s happening to me?” She ripped herself off the side of the car and quickly jumped onto the car seat. Her mum and herself looked at each other in complete shock. Still on facetime with Layla they began questioning the most bizarre thing that just happened. They wondered whether or not they had hallucinated the whole thing but then Layla opened her purse, and every single coin flew out and stuck to her arms.
“WHAT THE?” “How is this happening?” Layla asked in a confused tone.

Phoebe and Stacey returned home, and all was normal for a few hours and they had completely forgotten about what had happened in the car. It was six o’clock and they switched on the news to see that hundreds of people were being filmed outside on the streets of Kingston with either metal stuck to them or them stuck to metal. Phoebe and her mum watched like hawks as the reporter showed more and more people magnetised on the streets. The town turned into complete mayhem and no one knew what was going on or what on earth had caused this catastrophe. It was bad enough that they had a worldwide pandemic to deal with but now they had been faced with another challenge that they were going to have to figure out how to overcome. Every household was warned of what was happening and was sent a letter with a list of things they should avoid or be very cautious around. And just when Phoebe thought she had her freedom back she was locked up again in the jail she called home.

Life around Phoebe was getting worse, the pandemic had spread even more, and this stupid vaccine had people stuck to things left, right and center. She just couldn’t catch a break. She came to the conclusion that her life was never going to go back to normal and that it was going to be twisted for the rest of her life. She had lost all hope.
“At least I’m not the only one locked up anymore.” She commented sadly. All of a sudden, the phone started ringing. With nothing else to do so Phoebe jumped up and answered it hoping that it would make her day interesting, and it sure did.
“We would like to bring you into our lab to keep you under observation.” The voice on the other line stated. Phoebes jaw almost hit the ground when she heard those words being spoken to her.
“Sure, it’s not like I’ve got anything better to do.” Phoebe replied. The next morning she was off, with a few speed bumps along the way (and by speed bumps I mean getting magnetised to random objects) in hope of finally solving this craziness she called her life…
