What's wrong with her lips? It looks like she's got a disease or something." (Siobhan is one of the Martha's) Melinda's lips represent how she always has her mouth closed and keeps them shut no matter what because she can' t say what she really wants to say about what happened or "I can't stop biting my lips. It looks like my mouth belongs to someone else, someone I don't even know." This represents how she doesn't even know who she is anymore with her saying it's like her mouth belongs to someone else she doesn't even know. It's kinda like she's losing herself as time progresses and she doesn't know what to do anymore.

This shows the Isolation she has that rather than be with people she would rather sit in a closet by herself with no one around to sit in Isolation. This quote "This closet is abandoned -it has no purpose, no name." It is the perfect place for me." shows that the Closet is a place to hide and kind of represents her self with It has no purpose and no name. I put it in the back of my closet, facing the wall." This shows how she doesn't like the way she looks now because after what happened at the party she kinda doesn't like what changed in her after it and is just ashamed of herself but can't let off the pressure because everyone around her hates her and doesn't care what she has to say about anything.

It seems to be where she's most alert and open like the way she talks to Ivy and Mr. Freeman. "This is where you can find your soul, if you dare. Where you can touch that part of you that you've never dared to look at before."  Art Class kinda makes Melinda open up as she did with Ivy later in the book. You are caught in the meaning, in the effect  of commercialism on this holiday." In this quote Melinda seems to have some passion with what she was doing with the chicken bones even putting tape over the barbies mouth on top representing her being silent and the tree part where she draws dark trees being struck by lightning and one being so dark you can't even see the tree. Front Row."  This shows how even her who really didn't do anything but he still hates her without knowing her for a day and continues to put her down and be a problem even hunting her down in the halls and during lunch when there are probably a lot more people who didn't do what he was asking her for. Some people all the time act nice on the outside but somewhere in there they have a hide hidden that they only let out when there alone like here "Here people don't even know I exist. I get squished in the hall and I don't belong anywhere and nobody cares. And you're no help.
