This story takes place in WWII. And HIRO and TOMI were going to get jawbreakers from a candy shop. But the man at the counter clarifies that they can't come in because the sign on the door said no japs even though they were partly American and was born in America. TOMI's dad was arrested in CH2 because the FBI assumed that their Father was a spy because they looked and had Japanese stuff. And than HIRO, TOMI and their Mom burnt down mostly all their Japanese stuff like Clothes toys ETC... besides HIRO's doll, because it prizes her. And I highly recommend this book for you if you are a WWII fan.

But you yourself might have a different perspective because you are not living the character's life. Your life is different.

I think that the raffle is something that is different for me now and Tomi in the book because a lot of the people coming to Tomi’s mom’s quilting lesson really want to win the quilt because Winter is coming near in the story at Tallgrass. Now, when Winter comes to Singapore, our family just simply turns the air conditioner hotter or we just don’t mind because in Singapore, we don’t get Winter. I also think that money is something different for me and Tomi because for a month’s work, most jobs at Tallgrass give under 20 dollars. Now 20 dollars is about how much my sister gets as her monthly allowance.

Firstly they have know you a little bit more. Secondly both families should meet each other then when the other family knows you they would allow it. But in the story Carl has a older Sister but the dad died for some reason and the mom died from illness, so I that case they did that to replace Ben, Ruth’s younger Brother who died at the age 4 and put Carl in who seems to know how to speak at the age 4 and knows Ben’s stuff toy dog’s name.
