Some struggles people face are that they cannot go out to get their own groceries/essential items, might not be able to run errands, financially struggling etc.

Usually, yes, if it is for a good cause. You can volunteer during your free time to help others in need like elderly. If you're volunteering for environmental cleanups, it can not only benefit ourselves and others, it can also help the earth out, reducing environmental issues!!

Another struggle people may face is because their community may not be active and don't communicate with each other, they are unable to aid each other in times in need.
2) Yes, most of the time volunteering is optional and people who volunteer will put effort into the task they volunteered to do. some volunteer work may include helping neighbours with menial tasks, or helping to collect garbage from the neighbourhood, no matter what activity people volunteer their time to do, it will help make a positive impact on their community.
