When we come back from lunch we always greet every child “Unnusakut” meaning good afternoon. We usually ask questions like “kisumit nirirataaqit?” What did you have for lunch and tell them what we had. Or ask them if they rode a snowmobile or Honda on their way to the Daycare. When a smaller toddler starts crying at a drop off we usually bring them to the window for distraction and comfort them when they are crying.

Different ways we can communicate with colleagues

We can communicate and plan crafts when the children are taking a nap or when they are eating, or even when we’re out of work during weekends or after hours to make our plan easier for the day

The way I communicate to children’s, talk to them calmly and gentle. How we communicate sing along with the children’s, play toys, read a book, playing outdoors, during circle time, in the morning and afternoons we always greet and welcome the children’s and parents and guardians.

Once I come to work in the morning we all say (Ullukkut) good morning to my coworkers and when a child comes in we greet them with saying Hi and their name and I say (daycaregiatukuluvii) which means I’m happy they came to daycare this morning, ask them if they’re in a happy mood and think out loud with what we may be doing today. And when someone gets hurt by accident I’ll say oh no (puah) witch means sorry that happened to you and give some sympathy and attention and tell them how we can try and avoid little accidents.

Unuusakut- good afternoon

Qanuipit- how are you?

We always greet the children and the parents when they come to the daycare.

On the baby side we do mostly baby talk around them cause they are just under 2 years of age and a little fragile too! When is snaking time I say appapa- food when is brushing time I say kigutisiu- brush time, as a child growing we began to talk more sentences in small words salumaqsagalimitaa-cleaning time with a song that we sing to the children.

When the children is having a hard time speaking like we all know every child is different, when their talking to me when I can’t understands them i follow them around and asked them “is this what you wanted?” Or let them point at something they want/need.
