Parts:Jem scolds Scout for eating the soggy snow and walking in it, which he insists is wasting it. They walk in Miss Maudie’s yard, where Mr. Avery accuses them of bringing on this bad weather. Scout, knowing that Mr. Avery knows it’s her fault because of the Rosetta Stone, doesn’t question him. Miss Maudie wraps her azaleas in burlap to keep them from freezing and when Jem asks, suspiciously lets him borrow a basket to cart away her snow.

-The fact that the snow is something entirely unheard of in Maycomb foreshadows what’s to come—a summer in which other things previously unheard of will also come to pass. This then represents a major disruption to Maycomb life, even as Miss Maudie behaves normally by caring for her plants and Mr. Avery does the same by blaming the bad weather on the children.

The fire at Miss Maudie's house made Scout appreciate Boo's actions and sparked her curiosity about him. Jem confessed to Atticus about the knot-hole, fearing Boo's involvement. Miss Maudie's calm demeanor puzzled the children. They sought comfort in her and shared their experiences.

For the first time in years, Maycomb had a proper winter. It wasn't heavy snow, but it was rare enough to cause school to be canceled. Jem and Scout made their own yard out of Miss Maudie's yard and had fun playing in the little snow they had. Since there wasn't enough snow to make a snowman, they made a small dirt figure and covered it with snow. They made it look similar to Mr. Avery, the grumpy man who lived down the street. Atticus instructed them to make sure it didn't look too much like him. Following his instructions, Jem put Miss Maudie's straw hat on the snowman's head and stuck a large pair of scissors, used for cutting branches, in its hand to annoy her.

In Chapter 8 of Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," winter arrives in Maycomb, Alabama, and Scout and Jem Finch eagerly anticipate the first snowfall. However, instead of snow, they wake up to find the town covered in a thick layer of white dust, which turns out to be cotton from the nearby cotton fields.

School is canceled due to the weather, so Scout and Jem spend their day building a snowman out of the cotton and playing in their makeshift winter wonderland. Eventually, they decide to head home, but as they pass the Radley house, they notice that their snowman has been mysteriously mutilated. They suspect their reclusive neighbor, Boo Radley, of committing the act.

Frightened by the incident, Scout and Jem rush home and recount the event to their father, Atticus. He advises them to not jump to conclusions and to consider that someone else might be responsible. Later that evening, Scout discovers a warm blanket draped around her shoulders, and she realizes that Boo Radley must have left it there. This realization sparks a mix of fear and fascination in her.
