They suspect their reclusive neighbor, Boo Radley, of committing the act.


Frightened by the incident, Scout and Jem rush home and recount the event to their father, Atticus. He advises them to not jump to conclusions and to consider that someone else might be responsible. Later that evening, Scout discovers a warm blanket draped around her shoulders, and she realizes that Boo Radley must have left it there. This realization sparks a mix of fear and fascination in her.
