To Kill a Mockingbird is a great book, but it is banned in a lot of schools across the country. Some teachers believe that the book is too harsh for students because of the use of explicit language and racist factors. Also, the book didn't sugar coat anything, meaning they were not shy on discussing topics such as rape. I believe banning the book is pointless because students need to learn about these kinds of things at some point in their lives. Racism used to be a serious issue in the 1930's, so I feel kids need to learn how some people were really treated back in those days. We should not try to hide or cover up those dark times because it was in our past, and we learn from our mistakes.

YOUR NEXT FAVORITE MOVIE! In the movie “Avatar” Neytiri has to put down a viper wolf because Jake Sully wounded it. When you watch this scene in the movie, you can see the hatred and disappointment on Neytiri’s face towards Jake because from her village it is a wrongdoing to kill a viper wolf. In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird” it is a sin to kill a mockingbird because these birds don’t harm anyone or hurt anything. Someone might enjoy the movie “Avatar” after reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” because it has the same sense of taboo towards killing sacrosanct creatures.

Brown v board of education was a series of five court cases that were heard by the supreme court regarding the topic of segregation in public schools. The cases included Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Davis v. Board of Education of Prince Edward County, Briggs v. Elliot, Gebhart v. Ethel, and Bolling v. Sharpe. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, during the trial, there were signs of segregation. Whites were able to sit in the pews of the court house, while African Americans had to sit up stairs.
