Today we are starting our ‘Digital citizenship’ block. After signing our technology agreement, we kicked off our learning by looking at how to represent ourselves in different ways online and exploring ways in which/why we might change our online identity depending on what we are doing.

- why I should be careful who I trust online and what information I can trust them with

- why I can take back my trust in someone or something if I feel nervous, uncomfortable or worried

- what is meant by ‘trusting someone online’. I can explain why this is different from ‘liking someone online’

Following a class discussion, the children independently ranked the trustworthiness of several scenarios before coming back together as a class and sharing our thoughts on each one.

- how my and other people’s feelings can be hurt by what is said or written online.

- who I should ask if I am not sure if I should put something online.

what online bullying is and can describe how people may bully others

how to behave online appropriately and why it is important

- why spending too much time using technology can sometimes have a negative impact on me

- some strategies to promote health and well being

What a great session! Today we took our time and worked on building the skills above to help us live, learn and work with technology.

Today, after recapping the four C’s and some tips to stay safe online, we explored the system that will allow us to be computer scientists this term.

By following a set of instructions, we were able to successfully log on and take a peek before our next lesson.

Following a class input and a discussion about how to stay safe online, we took some time to focus on some key vocabulary by completing a word search and defining the words we found to the class.

The children have been investigating search engines and search terms for effective searching.

We discussed the differences between facts and opinions online and why it mattered. The children did a quiz using purple mash using their skills to separate facts from options.

The children discussed different scenarios where other peoples work was taken from the internet and was used without the author's permission. They decided it was unfair to take credit fr someone else's work.
