Using Lego was great way to help us focus on modelling the storytelling and orchard areas. We could see the shape of the tree supports, tree canopies, seating/benches and sensory planters really easily and it provided some great contributions and energy for the task. Once all options had been explored, taking an average canopy size of 2.5 - 3.5 metres the group came to their decision, providing Team 4 with a great start to move their orchard tasks forwards.

This is a great way to make a hedge/ fence which is also very environmentally friendly. This uses sticks and twigs which have fallen off tress or that you have pruned to make a beautiful looking hedge/ fence, which doubles up as a great habitat for birds and insects.

Raised beds can be a beautiful and very practical way to grow flowers or veggies for people. However they then require a lot of soil or compost to fill them fully. The picture above give examples of other resources you can use to fill the bottom of the planter saving your compost for nearer the top.

Using scaffolding boards to make a bench. To get the correct angle to make the bench the group have also been using a protractor to measure 60 degree angles.

This week we have started to cut the wood to make our bench. In order to do this they have had to use a protractor to measure the correct angle and then a tenon saw to get a more accurate cut.

Planning the planting for the cut-away garden plots - one will have a selection of woodland, shade loving and hardy wild flowers. The other will have drought resistant planting to help demonstrate to others how we will need to evolve in our garden planting if gardens are to survive global warming.
