Seperationsfasen:
Når man tager til Mekka(Hadjj) adskiller det enkelte individ sig fra det normale hverdagsliv. 
Man bliver iført nogle klæder som også er en del af seperationen

Liminale fase: 
Den liminale fase foregår når individet går rundt om Kabbaen, Her er han isoleret fra det individet plejer at lave og gøre.  Derudover er man på det tidspunkt også på grænsen mellem den gamle og nye tilstand.

Inkorporationsfasen:
Denne fase sker når individet kommer tilbage som et forandret menneske. individet kommer tilbage til en ny hverdag

Den liminale fase: Det er de ting, som du fulføre dernede, f.eks. at man får 7 gange rundt om Kabbaen og at man beder osv.

Inkorporationsfasen: Man kommer tilbage til hvordan man var før, men med sine religiøse status f.eks. at man skal undgå at høre musik, man skal bede alle 5 bønner hver dag osv.

Hajj:

Seperationsfasen: Det er alle de ting man gør, for at blive parat til at komme til Mekka. F.eks. en kvinde skal ikke menstruere, man skal ikke have gæld. Man skal have styr på sine ting. (Starten af tabu-reglerne, fordi der er kontakt med det hellige). 

Liminal fasen: Det er de ritualer man laver, når man er derhenne. F.eks. de syv runder man tager rundt om Mekka. Det er også her, at tabu-reglerne er meget på spil (farlige) 

Inkorporations fasen: Det er fasen hvor man er færdig med de ting man skal - individet har fået den nye status og kommer tilbage til den gamle hverdag.

Separationsfasen: hverdagens normale forhold er i fleste tilfælde meget forskellige fra forhold på pilgrimsrejsen. Eksempelvis kan man gå fuldt tildækket til hajj, men kun gå op i hovedbeklædningen herhjemme. 

Den liminale fase: her udføre individet ritualet ved at gå rundt om kabaen, vi snakker om at ritualet reaktualiseres. 

Inkorporationsfasen: i den sidste fase opnår man en ny status eller man kan sige at man er en nyfødt individ da man er renset og tilgivet for alle sine synder. Nu tilbage til at udføre religiøse ritualer.

det muslimiske individ bliver "genfødt" får sin nye titel.

Seperationsfasen - I denne fase helligøres den hellige destination, Hajj. Dette kræver en specifik/speciel klædning  f.eks. Abaya for en pige. Det kan være særligt tøj, udsmykning osv. Man må ikke tage af sted hvis man har uvenner, Ingen gæld.
 
2. Liminalsefasen - Ro i sindet, fællesskab ,glæde, renselse) - Fuldført alle de ritualler der er i HAJJ. Transformationen sker ved at starte på ny, dvs. Alle ens synder bliver slettet. F.eks. Vil man gå fuld tildækket i Hajj og herhjemme kun tildække sig med hovedbeklædning. 
 
 3. Inkorporationsfasen - Man kommer tilbage til sit normale liv men stadig med en ny status fordi man er renset og normalt når man tager til hajj er det for at ændre ens livstil, eller for at blive renset.
