A Dog Called Homeless by Sarah Lean

Cally is grieving for her dead mother and gives up talking when she becomes convinced that what she says doesn’t matter. Cally’s father never mentions her mom, which seems to deny her existence. Cally then begins to see

her mother- a ghost or imagining? - that is sometimes accompanied by a dog who Cally ends up naming “homeless” because the dog always turns up independently. The theme of this story is grief, loss, love, and death. This book can be a lesson to many kids that everyone loses someone or something every day and there are people out there suffering from grief. It's an introduction to children who are new to the concept of death and grief. Those who have dealt with that at an early age can relate to this book. The author may have expericed a death in their early childhood that inspired them to make this book.

Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

Trixie, who can’t talk but manages to tell her parents that she lost her favorite stuffed animal. Trixie does everything she can to get her beloved bunny back. As kids, we all carry a prised possession and this story can relate to many kids. The author of this story based this book on a real-life experience. I think he wanted to show kids that it's possible for your voice to be heard if something goes wrong or if you need help. Kids grow up with something they love but eventually, that prized possession will be lost or forgotten. That's what we experience with our daily life anyway.

Stuffed animals teach compassion, how to love, how to be gentle with one another.
A "favorite " childhood Blanket

A blanket symbolizes warmth and comfort for the child when they need it the most. Most children carry something they've grown up with and they want to take care of it and have learned to love it. Most objects like this end up getting lost, forgotten, or thrown away once kids start to grow up. Objects like these are just memories now. Something you once love and cherished now is gone and forgotten.
