How to Lie with Maps by Hannah Harris

Someone in your group should post a picture of your map to the padlet.
Then other members should comment on the post with the following information, but feel free to include other relevant points:
Objects: What were the objects your group used? How did the objects limit or enhance the map you made?
Propaganda: what hidden messages or lies might your map portray?
Map Key/Toponyms: how did you decide what materials represented the areas on your map?
Overall rationale: why did you choose to map the specific idea that your group chose?

Roadmap to Middle School Summer

Our group used bubble wrap packaging (books, sand, and party hats) , apple sauce (sand and pompoms) , a pop socket (ocean/water trampoline), a friendship bracelet and a cracker (snack).
The friendship bracelet was the thing that really enhanced the idea behind the map because it tied all the objects together and allowed us to come up with ideas for the other objects as well.
Some lies are that this is the only thing that happens over a 'middle school' summer, but a lot more occurs. We don't really burn our books, just the notes.
The apple sauce and pop socket were chosen as a beach setting because their appearance and color.
We chose this idea for the map because all the objects we brought were able to fit together in the same scenario.

Map of your 1st year of college Alex, Amalia, Emma

We used ventra cards to show the transportation you use to get to a city college. A pen to show working on school and getting good grades. Then cups cut out of gum wrappers to represent partying and making new friends. A boarding pass to show going home for winter break. Then after getting back from break a cough drop to show getting sick. More cups to show more good times. The bag for springtime going outside. Then lastly another Ventra card representing going home.
It enhanced it because it allowed us to put more colors in it.
The hidden message is the odd shape of the map and the scattered items to show how crazy your first year is.
The items actually correspond to what we were trying to represent.
We started off with the objects and worked backwards trying to figure out how they could work together.

We used a chocolate chip cookie tin and make up and perfume samples from Sephora. We think the objects were cohesive and definitely created an aesthetic for our map. It was a little limited because everything was pretty beauty based,
Our hidden lie is that foundation, primer, highlight, and minimum eye makeup are all you need to go from looking dead to a model
We used our beauty blender liquid as the road , and used a bow to demonstrate the trick to fixing a bad hair day. We also used lots of labels to label where certain things were and to better portray the steps to reaching a completed look.
The products we started with really fit with our whole beauty / makeup vibe considering they were all from sephora.

It all starts with a vision... a dream. In this visual you can see the faces that have come before us titled, Inspirations. You can see there are two people climbing the mountain, the mountain of life, the mountain of dreams. At the end of our lives (the top of the mountain) we are left with our past memories, experiences and lessons learned along the way. The "inspirations" serve as propaganda that there is a right way to do life, as you can see in their uniform fancy attire. You can do it your own way. (Click on the post to see the picture).
