Gatsby not receiving his inheritance is what inspired his crazy obsession with wealth and being rich, this obsession is what also inspired my title. In a way, Gatsby becoming rich was a way to show how the inheritance meant nothing to him and he didn't depend on it. It shows how Gatsby is 'better' and more powerful.

"And it was from Cody that he inherited money — a legacy of twenty-five thousand dollars. He didn’t get it. He never understood the legal device that was used against him, but what remained of the millions went intact to Ella Kaye."

Tom and Gatsby fight for the girl

In chapter 7 Tom confronts Gatsby for his now obvious love for Daisy, and additionally blackmails him with his illegal activities. Later in the Chapter Gatsby prevents or talks to Tom in order to protect Daisy, telling Tom that he will take the blame for an accident, revealing just how deep Gatsby's love is for Daisy.

In this chapter, Gatsby has had to come to terms that him and Daisy will never be able to re-live what they had in their past. Knowing this he has spiraled into an introspective, empty, and depressive state of mind. Wilson in a state of rage, believes that God demanded revenge for Gatsby's association of the death of Myrtle. Wilson searches for Tom to understand who might've killed Myrtle, knowing Tom was logically unable to kill Myrtle, Wilson goes to Gatsby's Mansion. He finds Gatsby floating on an air mattress in a pool he has never swam in, shooting Gatsby and himself, seeing it as a command from God. Meaning that when Gatsby died he was empty and felt he had nothing to live for, due to the Daisy situation.
