The Roman empire lasted for over 1000 years, during periods of this time Rome ruled much of Europe, Western Asia and Northern Africa. Their advanced technology and powerful army they obtained allowed Rome to control much of the area of the world. The Roman empire had large public projects which assisted with building roads, water and sewage systems. The roads created easier travel and transportation for the Roman army and made it easier to collect taxes. The water and sewage systems provided better sanitization for the Romans. With this technology, the Army soon became very powerful which allowed the Romans to control much of the Mediterranean world. The official languages of the Roman Empire were Greek and Latin, but many people spoke Hebrew. There were many cultural or religious groups in the Mediterranean world. This consisted of Hebrews, Christians, Polytheism or Gentile groups. Many people and goods where transported along the Roman paths for easy travel. These paths interconnected with many cities such as Antioch, Damascus, Jerusalem and Ephesus.

The conversion of Saul of Tarsus was very significant as for Paul soon brought change and upheaval. Paul was originally known as Saul. He was born in Tarsus with a strict Jewish upbringing. As a teenager he went to Jerusalem to connect more with his religion. Saul was an anti-Christian who persecuted many Christian leaders. On his way to Damascus, Christ blinded him with a light stronger then the sun and with this, Jesus spoke to him in a vision. He was blind for three days. From here changed his name from Saul to Paul, becoming a messenger of the Gospel and the word of Jesus. Converting many people to the Christian faith, he transformed the way of the Mediterranean world.

Paul was inspired to spread the word of Jesus. After being baptized in Damascus he went on many missionary journeys to preach the message of the Gospel. Paul's third journey started in Antioch, around 53 AD. During his travels he revisited many of the Christian communities, including ones that he had already established or written to. A main city he visited was Ephesus where he preached against false gods and converted many people to Christ. This led to bad business for local traders, including the silversmiths who created images of the Goddess of Artemis. Initiating an angry mob, Paul had to face a riot. After he left Ephesus, a community of Christians remained and grew in followers. It came to the end of Paul's third journey when he reached his last destination, Jerusalem. Where he was arrested for a breach of law.

Paul guided many of the Christian communities, after he established them through letters and his preaching. He wrote as frequently as he could to ensure they would stay faithful. He taught them about Christ and the gift of salvation. Through inspiring believers, his preaching converted many people to Christianity. His preaching consisted of many messages. He taught people that as followers of Christ, they would live in eternal happiness - leaving a message that they were gifted with the Christ’s resurrection to bring true righteousness and redemption.

A cultural challenge for Paul was the diverse range of cultural groups that disagreed or despised his preaching. Even though Paul established many Christian communities, many people and members of the roman government disliked him because of their beliefs or jobs. When Paul was visiting Ephesus, some citizens went out of business due to his preaching. This developed into an angry mob and eventually a riot that Paul had to face. Despite this, Paul continued spreading the word of the Gospel through his preaching. With authority feeling criticized and a breach of law, he was arrested 4 times and in the end was executed. The challenges Paul had to face can be read in 2 Corinthians 6:4-5 and
Acts 17:16-34 .

A message from Paul's epistle, Philippians 2:3-4 is to treat others how you want to be treated. The verses are; ‘3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others’. For us today it is important that people are selfless in their actions by donating to charities and doing as much as they can no matter how little a deed because the modern world is very chaotic, filled with poverty, death and many emotional situations. As teenagers, it is important that everyone tries their best to do better for others while everyone is going through school and developing friendships. The messages from these verses sometimes gets forgotten by people who usually are greedy with money or popularity. Through role models striving towards eternal happiness, equality and charity more people are inspired to work towards being humble.
