In the UK, when soldiers were drafted to war, there was a great shortage of workers so the Ministry of Labour launched a recruitment program thus allowing disabled people who were deemed ‘unfit’ to work to get jobs and earn money, changing the social construct of what disabled people ‘can and cannot do’.
