He taught the theory of Evolution and was charged for breaking the law. Scopes was found guilty and was punished with a fine of $100. This comes to show how close-minded America was at the time. </div>]]></description>

Their trial lasted from 1920-1927. They had been convicted on circumstantial evidence. Many do believe that they had been framed for the crime because of their anarchist and pro-union activities. It is significant because many believe they were put on trial because of their political beliefs and ethnic background.</div>]]></description>
