Their Scientific name is Gorilla beringei beringei, and their common name is Gorille de Montagne. The gorillas were found on 17 October 1902, it was also a sub species of eastern gorilla. The population of the Mountain Gorillas has increased to 680 in 1989 to 880 today! It is a good thing that not too much people are still trying to hunt them. There are two populations. One is found in the Virunga volcanic mountains of Central Africa, and Virunga in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.They are listed as critically endangered in the UICN. The fur of Mountain Gorilla is thicker and longer than the other species of Gorillas. It enables them to live in colder temperatures. The way to identify gorillas is by doing some nose prints. The mountain gorilla is highly social and lives in relatively stable, cohesive groups held together by long-term bonds between adult males and females.
