Thursday 7th January 2016-Research On Different Job Hunting

Job Fairs- A benefit of this is that you get to meet different people working in a range of jobs, doing different roles. However, a drawback would be how it's not the easiest place to communicate; due to it being loud and crowded. Another benefit of job fairs is that you can increase brand awareness as it's a way to get your name out in a positive light , to encourage talented job seekers to consider you and have conversations with real people rather than picking someone based on a resume. Another drawback is that you don't have the time to really get to know the person you're talking to as it's all go go; meaning it's difficult to know if they are actually right for the job. Another benefit is that you can meet and network with other corporations and you'll get the chance to meet and network with other recruiters and professionals in the field. Whereas, a drawback would be most career fairs feature employers from a wide range of businesses and industries. This can make it difficult to target which employers are worth approaching and which ones you’ll likely have nothing in common with.

S Networking- A benefit of networking is that exposure to company information – find out what types of people they are looking for, company knowledge and prepare yourself for any upcoming interviews. Networking is a great way to acquire new business leads. Using the contacts you make when you meet people can open doors for business opportunities. Statistics show that networking is the best way to land a new job. Professional networking can expose you to jobs that aren’t posted online or in newspapers. Making others know that you are looking for a job, and what your expertise and experience is, could open career doors of opportunity. However, some employers may view social networks as having little relevance to them or their business, so you're more likely to get on board with these organizations through traditional means. Because only about one-fourth of all job openings are advertised, online job-hunting is largely ineffective, compared to using professional networking as a job search tool. A major disadvantage to job hunting online is that everybody else is doing it. You're one of millions of people vying for jobs and perhaps thousands applying for the same job, because the convenience factor appeals to all of your competitors as well. Get your name around, though no one actually employing you. Lastly, a disadvantage of networking is that it requires effort and time to communicate with all the people your name has been given to.

NAdverts- A benefit is that you get to learn information on the job and decide whether you want to do it or not. However, a drawback is that the employer is just sending it out to a mass audience, therefore anyone could try for the job; even if they don't have the qualifications. On the other hand, a benefit would be that finding appropriate candidates can be the perfect advantage to using an online job board as you will reach a large proportion. You can add filter screening questions to your applications to ensure only the most relevant candidates are applying to your postings so as not to waste your time. Nevertheless, a drawback could be that Unfortunately, not every job posted online will be successful and you may not fill your vacancy. However, if you really ensure that you are selling the job opportunity to the job seekers, giving details of daily tasks and responsibilities as well as possible perks of the job will ensure candidates are more eager to apply. Nevertheless, a benefit would be that you can target a huge audience through the use of an online job board. They attract hundreds of thousands of candidates every month, so advertising your job online and reaching a large amount of candidates across the whole of the UK with your job posts couldn't be easier. Lastly, a drawback would be that using an online job board with such a high amount of job seekers registered to its site means you when you post a job, you could receive a lot of unwanted applications that will only waste your time. However, you can opt for special filter questions meaning relevant candidates will be filtered through straight to your inbox.

JobSites- A benefit of this is that you can go on specific websites which helps people get a job; meaning it's efficient and easy. Whereas a drawback is that by using an online job board with such a high amount of job seekers registered to its site, means you when you find a post about a job, it could be a fabrication, not reply to you or just simply waste your time. However, a benefit of this is that you can apply while being in the comfort of your own home; meaning it's chilled and casual which could increase your chance of getting the job due to feeling relaxed. On the other hand, a drawback could be that the employer can't have a face to face conversation where he can get to see the employee's personality and really determine whether they are suitable for the job. Another benefit is that You can search for jobs in your geographic area or you can explore opportunities in the next city, across the country or on the other side of the world. Lastly, a drawback would be that everybody else is doing it. You're one of millions of people looking for jobs and perhaps thousands applying for the same job, because the convenience factor appeals to all of your competitors as well. Even when you're searching for jobs outside your area, you're competing with job seekers in that region and people applying for the same job from every other region.

Word Of Mouth- A benefit of word of mouth is that you would most likely land yourself a job that's close within your region which is helpful. However, a step back would be that people may be manipulative and use your name in a negative way which could stop you getting work. Nevertheless, a benefit would be that information is being spread from you to the workplace and from the workplace to you; to identify whether you qualify for the job. On the other hand, a drawback from this is that an opinion could be seen as higher priority over qualifications which can be prejudiced. Whereas, a benefit would be that if you know people who knows other people that could help you get a job; word of mouth would be helpful as it gets your name out there. Lastly, a drawback would be that it lacks research on the employee due to being just a statement of someone's perspectives.

Work Experience- A benefit of work experience would be Work experience equips you with certain soft skills such as team working, communication skills and commercial awareness, all of which are sought after by employers, especially at a graduate level. A drawback is that most work places, you have to be eighteen which restricts tons of people wanting to get experience in the work industry. Nevertheless, a benefit would include how it also equips you with knowledge that will enhance your job applications and particularly your interviews. On the other hand, a drawback would be, if you didn't know what job you want to work in, it may be useless as it doesn't correspond with what you want to do. However, a benefit would be that you may have done such a good job at the placement that some long-term internships leads to full-time employment. Though, a drawback would be that the employers may give you inferior jobs because you are younger than them.

Recruitment Agency- The benefits of this is that Specialist Recruitment Agencies in your field will recognise and understand your expertise. They can give you objective feedback on your Application and how to promote yourself. They will also have a good knowledge of the market place. They may have excellent contacts in organisations that could be of interest to you. They save you the time of searching for job opportunities. Whereas, the drawbacks include Recruitment Agencies may be sympathetic about your situation, however do not have the time to invest in helping you with your issues. You may not always know who the client is until the last minute, which restricts your ability to fully research the company and interviewers. They decide which candidates are put forward for jobs – you may miss out or not know if the brief has changed. If you are looking for a Career Change, they may not listen to you and keep wanting to put you forward for roles similar to what you have done in the past. They can be quite impersonal and not keep in touch. Lastly, they maay amend your CV and make mistakes.
Company Websites- Benefits are that you can learn about the company and what they expect of you before you apply. You can apply from the comfort of your own home; increasing your chance of landing on the job due to you being calm and collected. You won't have to worry about spending money on transport. You can research where best it is to work for the company and whether their location is suitable for you. Whereas, drawbacks include not having a face to face conversation; meaning you don't know what their personality and is like and talk about personal things needed to be discussed. You're in an immense queue with other people competing for the job as they are all on the websites which could decrease your chance of getting the job. You won't know who your competition is; meaning you can't raise your game such as skills and qualifications to set yourself a place. Lastly, a drawback would be that If you don’t know the hiring manager, you end up in the same database as the thousand other applicants, hoping the words on your resume happen to match enough of the criteria being searched for therefore, the odds are bad.

Apprenticeship Research

An apprenticeship is a job with training. It means that you have a job that includes gaining recognised qualifications and essential skills whilst you are working and earning a wage. There are three types of Apprenticeships: Foundation Apprenticeship, Apprenticeship and Higher Apprenticeship. They normally last between two or three years. It all depends on the type of apprenticeship you're doing and at what level of qualification.

To apply or do an apprenticeship, you need to be aged 16 or over, there is no upper age limit. You have to apply like any other job. Apprenticeships are such a good way of getting into work and learning a job from scratch that they are really competitive. You must put together a really good application.

Whether you get paid or not depends on the employer; however you need to remember while you are learning you may not always be very productive for them and may spend lots of time out on training. There is a national minimum wage for apprentices.

To find different apprenticeships which suit you, going onto the Apprenticeship Matching Service will be helpful. Register so that you do not miss out on any opportunities. You can look at all the vacancies or just the ones in your area or just at the type of jobs you are interested in.

To apply, there are normally two options. You can either go on to the Apprenticeship Matching Service. You will be guided to add to the information you have already given when you registered on the site. Once happy you will be able to submit your application. The employer will send you emails letting you know what is going to happen next. On the other hand, you can go through the employers own system. Some employers want to use their own recruitment process. If this is the case you will be linked to their instructions. This may be an online application or they may send you out a paper application form.
