I decided to pick racism because this book shows how there were some people in the real world too that had/wanted friends that were a different skin color but they couldn't because they would've got in trouble or yelled at for race mixing. In the book, the main character, "Marlee" wants to be friends with "Liz". At first they can, but eventually everyone finds out that Liz is colored and her being friends with Marlee is considered to be a race mixer.

The poems message is about how people think only whites are racist but this poem shows/talks about how every race can and is somewhat racist. For example, it says "Take care! White racists! Blacks can be racist too." This shows that the writer is in the middle and doesn't think one race is more racist because we're all human.

This poem talks about why and how racists ruin our lives and why they have the power to do so. It says, "You are horrendously disgraceful but hate to admit you've got the power." This shows that the writer knows racist have power to ruin our lives because people listen to the false claims people make and just because a person sees or knows a person that is a race and they did something bad, doesn't mean the entire race is like that.

In the video, "Grandmather Speaks Out" the grandmother is a victim of racism. She was sent a letter that told her that people around the neighborhood have put their house up for sale because there was "Black children in their residents" and that "This neighborhood don't need any more blacks in it." The grandmother then responds by saying that she will do everything to keep her grandchildren safe and happy and it's hard because "Their not being respected here."

The Novel, "I Hadn't Meant To Tell You This" by Jacqueline Woodson, challenges the stereotype that light skinned people are rich and have life perfect. For example, Lena tells Marie throught their friendship about how she has to suffer sometimes because of her familys financial issue. An example of this is when she told Marie about how her mom couldn't get help for her breast cancer and she died because the couldn't afford to help her. The author seems to suggest that all people, no matter the skin color, have rough times and all people can get through it if they keep trying.

In this music video, it shows two people. One that is light skinned and another that is dark skinned. The entire song is split into two parts, one half being the light skinned person talking about why he doesn't like or dislikes dark skinned people. The other half is the other person saying why he doesn't like or dislikes light skinned people. At the end of the song they both "agree to disagree" and say that maybe one day it'll be different and they can be in each others shoes to see their side of the story. "I love you but I hate you at the same time I wish we could trade shoes or we could change lives So we could understand each other more but that'd take time I'm not racist It's like we livin' in the same buildin' but splittin' the both sides I'm not racist But there's two sides to every story and now you know mine"

The Novel, "Feathers" by Jacqueline Woodson, challenges the stereotype that dark skinned people can't be friends with light skinned people. For example, Jesus Boy slowly started to become closer and closer to Frannie until their friends at the end of the book and no one bothers Jesus boy anymore. The author seems to suggest that no matter the skin color, anyone can be friends. The other assumption that is being challenged is light skinned people don't have life as hard as dark skinned people do.

"The public is angry over cases in which officers did not face charges after they killed black men who were not carrying weapons." This shows that racial profiling is real and isn't just something people made up to make people look bad.
