There are professionals who advertise that they can diagnosis Dyslexia, but please approach this with caution. Sometimes they do not possess the correct qualifications to diagnosis and some can charge families lots of money for a screening assessment which is not a diagnosis.

These children will be identified through The Graduated Approach.  This is a four part cycle in which schools will:
  • Assess the child’s need
  • Plan support and intervention to meet the needs and ensure the child can make progress
  • Do – put in place the intervention and support for an agreed period of time
  • Review the progress the child has made as a result of the intervention

The purpose of Early Help is to put in the right support at the right time so that problems are less likely to escalate to a point where the child becomes vulnerable or in need. This may mean having different professionals involved, such as school health, school, family support workers, educational psychologist, etc.

 Early Help can be needed and put in place at any time and at any age. Participation is voluntary.

All children, young people and families in Warwickshire are entitled to receive Early Help. This means offering information, advice, guidance, and support to families as soon as a concern emerges, or seems likely to emerge.

First you will meet with a member of the team to complete the single assessment. This is mostly a conversation to ascertain where support is needed and what things we need to change. 

Then you have meetings with the same member of staff every 6-8 weeks to review the process and see how things are improving. Other professionals involved will also attend the meetings so that everyone is working together and the support is coordinated. 

When the outcomes outlined during the assessment have been met, we will have a closure meeting, where we will draw everything to an end and professionals will step back.
