Writing workshop enables teachers to support a wide range of students needs, making it an inclusive practice. Writing workshop allows for students to feel part of their classroom community during writing opportunities. These writing opportunities can come from transforming standardized curricula to engage diversity of students, simply by connecting the writing topics to topics that interest or matter to the students.  With this, every student in the classroom will feel like they have a voice and it will be heard through their writing.  Writing workshop moves away from teacher picking topics that matter to them to picking topics that matter to the students.  If the topic is of interest there will be more motivation from students who don't show much interest in the standardized curriculum.  Writing workshop allows students to be the teachers of their topics.  This is the time to build from students funds of knowledge.  The student can teach the class and the teacher something they may have never learned through a book from the classroom bookshelf.  Not only will students be motivated to write about something they know; they will also build confidence, confidence that may not have bloomed if writing workshop did not provide the opportunity.  

Writing workshop  creates spaces for diverse students to grow as writers and at their own pace.  It moves away from the grades and highlighting the errors and focuses on strengths through the content written.   This is helpful for ELL students because they may be learning English and it's grammar but the content and details of their writing might be fulfilling basic writing skills.  This is also helpful for students with disabilities.  They may not be proficient on conventions but their ability to tell a wonderful story may not be noticed if it is not for a writing workshop.  during a writing workshop it focuses on writing as a process and this is helpful for students who have special needs.  The idea is focused on how you work on creating your writing and working at your own pace, because of this students who have special learning needs will not feel pressured to work at the same pace as other students with no needs at all. This also allows the teacher to see where students are and what areas they need more support in.  The pace and time allotted can also be helpful for the teacher to conference with the students with special needs to guide areas they may be struggling with.

A writing checklist for students will provide them with the most important things needed to make a sentence. During a workshop lesson you can model reading to the students. You can model how to read from left to right, pausing in between sentences, and reading with excitement. This will help develop a better understanding of basic reading skills to young students. Also, by having a read aloud this will help students come up with ideas for new writing pieces.
Speaking:  A writing workshop can help develop students speaking skills. Students can share their work with a you as the teacher, a partner, small group, or whole class setting. This will get students comfortable with speaking and sharing their work with others.
Listening: In a writers workshop is is important to develop your students listening skills. When other students are sharing their work with either a partner or group it is important that the other students are fully listening.  "Think, pair, share" is a great way to work on speaking and listening skills.
Writing: A writing workshop helps students weed out their bad writing habits. A workshop will help students better their writing. This allows students to progress and become better writers. New writing skills will be developed along the way in a writers workshops.
Viewing: In a writing workshop you can have students work showing throughout your classroom. As a teacher you can create bulletin boards for your students writing work shop pieces. This allows students to view others work, students can also get ideas from other students writing pieces.
Visually representing: Mini lessons can be used to help students with something they do not understanding in a writing workshop. In mini lessons you can demonstrate to students how something should be done. You could also have posters in your classroom that students can access for additional help.

Teachers also will mark different vocabulary words to go over during and after the reading. Also teachers will allow students to have time to talk to there peers and share their ideas with one another.

Mini-Lesson: A mini lesson will typically introduce a writing workshop. During this time the teacher will have a specific topic. The teacher can model to the students what they are asking them to do. The lesson will also relate to a larger lesson that follows it. It is also a way to create excitement about a topic and ask questions.

Writing Time: This is the time for students to work through the full writing process. This should be a consistent and uninterrupted time for students. This is also the time when students and the teacher can conference on what the student is writing about.

Sharing: This is typically the final step in the writing workshop process. A few students will have the choice of sharing their writing piece to the class.
