Yes, i have heard of email etiquette , it consists of our behavior of writing an email. 
- it should be more formal
- usage of abbreviation should be avoided
-you should always respect the other person on mail

Instances where email would be more appropriate than texting- 
-as it is more formal and each and every thing is explained so there is less chance of getting confused 
-you have a data of everything in very formal and precised way 
-as well it is very formal and hence used more in business world
