Artist: Whitney Houston
Type: Pop
Lyrics: "I wanna dance with somebody, I wanna feel the heat with somebody"
- "Clock strikes upon the hour and the sun begins to fade"
Relates: This song relates to "Three o'Clock in the Morning" because they both talk about never wanting to stop dancing with the person they want. They do not want the night and fun time to end. This song will change the listeners mood to wanting to dance with someone just like the song in "The Great Gatsby".
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRUtST_dpRE

Artist: Harry B. Smith and Francis Wheeler
Type: Jazz

Context: Daisy heard about Gatsby and asked about him. Nick and Jordan are driving and hear little girls singing this song. Nick and Jordan are talking about where Gatsby's house is when they hear them.
Significance: The significance of this song being sang by the girls helps add a bit more detail and suspicion because i makes the reader think if Daisy is thinking about going back to Gatsby or staying where she is in her marriage with Tom.
Influence on mood: This part of the story won't necessarily change the mood as much as add more hints to make the reader think a little bit about the scene. However it could add a bit of suspicion and mystery to the reader about what Daisy will do. Overall the song could also make you feel in love or make you have the feeling of love.
Rationale: A reason Fitzgerald put this song into the scene is to add tension to it.
Lyrics: "Your love belongs to me'
- "The stars that shine above will light our way to love
you'll rule this world with me"
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FASKiIvpr8s

Artist: Richard Whiting
Type: Foxtrot
Context: Gatsby and Daisy reunite and meet for tea after years apart. Daisy rejected Gatsby previously because he was poor and her parents made her marry Tom for his money.
Significance: This song talks about loving life and finding happiness in it whether you are rich or poor. It could also show how seeing Daisy again made Gatsby rich in feelings and emotions while Daisy is just the opposite.
Influence on mood: This could shift the reader's mood to being happy and excited for Gatsby because the love of his life has finally come back into his life after many years.
Rationale: Fitzgerald could have added this song into the story to give a message to the readers about how no matter what you have or do not have you can still have as much fun as the next guy.
Lyrics: "Not much money, oh, but honey
ain't we got fun?"
- "The rich get rich"
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMgnUpoUDHc

Artist: Paul Whitman
Type: Waltz
Context: This song plays as Daisy and Tom are leaving Gatsby's party early in the morning. Gatsby invited Daisy to the party because he wanted to see her, but Tom had his suspicions about them so he came with.
Significance: The significance of this song playing at this particular scene is that Daisy is ending the night with the wrong guy after Gatsby wants nothing more than to leave the party with her at "three o'clock in the morning".
Influence on mood: This can change the mood from happy to wanting to be with somebody and have them be in this same situation as well as pitying Gatsby and how he can not publicly have the girl of his dreams because she has someone else.
Rationale: Fitzgerald could have put this song in the story to give the reader insight on what Gatsby wants.
Lyrics: "Seems to be made for us two
I could just keep on dancing forever dear with you"
- "My heart keeps beating in time
Sounds like an old sweet love tune"
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81cG10yNV5c

If you're not the one then why does my hand fit yours this way?"
- "And I hope you are the one I share my life with"
Relates: Both of these songs talk about how they want the love from someone and does not want to be with anybody else.
