The Chicago Times was in support of big business because it said in the text they stopped traffic and said "It was the most decisive thing the boycotters have done yet." basically saying it was their fault that production slowed down.

The chicago times supported the worker because it highlights the boycott they made by not working any of the trains as a form of resistance. To cite the text "The conductor rang the bell, the train stopped, the whole crew got down and cut off those three cars."

The Chicago Tribune clearly supported the Pullman based on the language the article used to describe them. Words like drunken Anarchists, drunken rebels and referencing the crowd as a mob implies that the Chicago Tribune saw the workers as the antagonists. On the other hand, with the Chicago Times we see more respect with the article calling the strickers men and not drunken rebels like the Chicago Tribune. The Chicago Times also implied that the strikers were strong when it stated that despite there being threats from militia laws, an attempt by militia men to exterminate them by bullet, and the mobilization of five regiments of state militia, the American Railway Union men were still standing.

The Chicago Times newspaper supported Pullman because they just talked on how the strikers actions were negative. A quote from the newspaper reads, “All the western half of the United States has begun to feel the paralysis of the American Railway Union’s boycott of Pullman.” The article talks much on how the Strikers are halting the trains insinuating that the acts are unjustified. The Chicago Tribune supported the workers in that they mentioned that the workers were on strike to get Mr. Pullman agreed to a settlement but also talked about how they became aggressive and that the freight service went into a standstill, “...in its efforts to force a settlement between Mr. Pullman and his striking employees. Its freight service was at a standstill all day...”

Based on the close reading of the two articles, I think the first newspaper, “DEBS SURE HE CAN WIN Says the Battle is But Begun” supported the pullman (bosses) side. “I cannot stop now . . . I propose to work harder than ever and teach a lesson to those bigoted idiots. The managers refuse to work for peace.”
