Is LED illumination ready for the mass market?

LED lighting is already widely accessible, but ready for the mass market and ready for the LED mass market? While it is rapidly growing, it is still a relatively new technology that will take some time to establish.

Are LED customers ready?

LED technology has seen many modifications since it was created in 1927, most of them in the past five years. This is large because of changes in international law to prohibit the manufacture of incandescent bulbs, and because customers were not overrun by their CFL (compact fluorescent) substitutes.

With energy costs increasing fast, Happy Lights led bulbs in pakistan consumes about 80% less energy than incandescent lighting, and these savings may be further enhanced with the use of sophisticated lighting management systems that operate with LEDs. Furthermore, LED makers to say that most LEDs last for 30 years, compared to the conventional bulb for 6 to 12 months or to the CFL for 5 to 10 years. In addition, as opposed to CFLs, LEDs do not contain any hazardous mercury.

Thus, they are cheaper to use throughout the lifespan of the product than conventional light sources and are ecologically sounder: since they last longer deposits they are decreased, no chemical substances can be disposed of and they save energy.

So even if more people convert from conventional to LED, why not all of them?

High initial cost

One of the major reasons why customers are postponed from investing in LEDs is the initial high costs, and many people will not be convinced to convert until this is achieved in the fast-moving market, even with knowledge of long-term cost saves. It is far tougher to put your hand in the pocket and give over £30 for an LED bulb than to pay £1 for a conventional one.

CFLs are not very popular

The last major shift in lighting was approximately ten years ago when compact fluorescent lights were introduced. These were marketed on their savings in energy and could be bought from £2 to £10. Many individuals changed, but they were not pleased with the product: the start-up time wasn't too sluggish, the color output was poor, the bulbs were ugly, and dimming issues occurred. This got the public worried about another new product.

Changes in LED technology

All major lighting manufacturers engage in the research and development of LED technology to enhance their products while expanding their portfolio. This implies that every few months product modifications occur, with increasing claims on the life and effectiveness of LEDs leaving the market extremely confused. How can customers securely get a new LED bulb if just four months after introduction the same manufacturer changes it with a "better" model?

How to compare several sources of light

One significant issue is the absence of a common testing process across goods and therefore the comparison of incandescent, compact fluorescent, and LED bulbs are quite difficult. If the customer is to replace his conventional light bulb with an LED, they want something comparable or greater light output, but it is tough to compare wattages and lumen outputs. The easiest method to evaluate lumens per watt is probably to look at them, although they have several problems:

Direction

Other technologies throw their light in many directions, whereas LEDs are more like a torch. So when comparing lumens, you compare light distributed across a larger angle (conventional bulbs) with the light going in one direction (LEDs). A straight comparison of the lumen does not accurately represent the amount of light that reaches the application surface. If a directed beam is needed, the LED usually does a decent job, but when a light stretch is required to replace an incandescent light, the LED seems a lot darker. Until LED bulbs with a larger beam angle like 120° are available compared with the conventional 38°, the light quality is not the same.

Index of color rendering (CRI)

CRI measures how effectively a bulb produces the richest colors with a value of 100. Burning bulbs have a CRI of 100, but the LEDs still have an average of around 85. Until this improves, the light won't seem as nice yet.

The Fourth

The initial cost of outlay is now too high, the technology is evolving too fast and the quality of the light output is not there yet at acceptable pricing. With all the money that manufacturers spend in R&D, however, LED lights will be ready for the general market, but not yet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3F0dwsBFjw
