Technology's purpose in the classroom should be to make learning more accessible to students. This means that kids are using items such as computers and iPads to aid them in their day-to-day routines. Technology should also not be introduced for its own sake. Teachers need to have a purpose for using it. For example, I introduce digital collaboration through shared online documents as a way of motivating students to work together where traditional face-to-face interactions have failed in the past. For shy students, technology has allowed them to be active participants in learning.

I believe that the purpose of technology in modern education is to build digital literacy among students so that they may be successful professionals in later life. Many of today's careers involve the use of technology and it is up to us to prepare students for how to use it responsibly and effectively.

Technology in the classroom ensures that there is a higher degree of engagement from students. Most students are much more willing/ready/excited to use technology over pencil and paper (regardless of how large or small the task is). As a teacher in a flipped classroom, technology is what drives the science assignments. Now that the new NGSS standards are out, our district still has not adopted a book, so everything we do is teacher created. Google classroom houses the assignments, and google drive and other google apps are used to complete and turn in most assignments. Our science class is also research driven for most group and individual projects, so the internet is a must!
