Initiated by the Oregon Music Education Association (OMEA), the project helps stakeholders determine the status of music education within their local school district and statewide by comparing student demographics and certified music instructor staffing levels for general music, band, choir, and orchestra/strings at Oregon schools. 

Data collection began in 2014 and was completed in 2016. The searchable database is posted publicly on the OMEA website. Initial analysis has found that over 56,000 Oregon public school students have no access to music curriculum taught by a certified instructor during the school day. A more complete report, expected in late 2017, will celebrate areas of strength in Oregon’s school music programs and offer actionable guidance to stakeholders for remedying inequities where they exist.
