Activity: HACK AN OBJECT by Irene Zingg

INSTRUCTIONS:
1-. Pick a random object from your office or household (a pencil, a ruler, a coffee mug, anything).
2-. Using paper, tape, or any other material, hack the object.
Make all the changes needed to transform the object into something that represents one of the key attributes of a makerspace: Creativity, Collaboration, Perseverance, etc.
Bear in mind that the object HAS to change; it cannot have any connection with the original one.
3-. When you are done, take a picture of your creation and post it here:

Cables are a huge problem in my house. We always have them lying around and my husband hates to throw them away. I thought of this hack in which you can use toilet paper rolls, make them decorative, then use them to sort and organize all the cables. I think this shows the attribute of creativity.

This is something a colleague and I created. We took an old gait trainer (used to help students stand and walk) stripped it down and connected PVC pipe and bungee cords. Students with that struggle with physical movements such as throwing pull on the long lever and it throws the ball for them. It is something that has been done before, but we modified for our students. This is one of the more creative things I have ever done with "hacking an object".
