With toddlers, the most unique part of development is their cognitive development and functioning because there is so much learning going on. They are exploring their world and they’re so curious. Another reason why it is, is because a lot of people think that toddlers are able to to do a lot of stuff and are capable of understanding different things, but they forget that toddlers think differently and understand differently. They don’t quite grasp all of the concepts that we may think they should. As well, a lot of people expect way too much of toddlers because they assume that they are able to understand and perceive things that they aren’t ready to grasp yet. They also assume that once a toddler can do something, then they always can do it but really they sometimes forget. Sometimes they still need that little boost of help to put on their shoes despite the fact that you saw them put on their shoes three times last week. The mind of a toddler is amazing and the learning opportunities that they can discover and do is insane. So cognitive development is very unique to toddlers.
-Avery
