For University Mental Health Day, the Disability & Wellbeing team set up a mentimeter vote, asking staff and students how they look after their mental health. Engagement with mental health posts  is typically low across the sector so this was used to enable participants to  interact  anonymously in the hope it would increase engagement. It worked and we had 8 times more responses than for previous posts. As usual, the survey was posted on the Wellbeing Teams group, by email and as an announcement on Canvas. At the beginning I posted this as a word cloud question to highlight he fact that students of different ages had different experiences of using social media and the impact that this had on the way the interact online and the way they might be perceived by employers. In this case I was asking them about their attitude towards salary negotiation because this is something they have to do in their AS2 for professional skills. This led to an interesting discussion on why they felt this way and the students who had expressed confidence were encouraged to speak up. The primary purpose of this was to expose the students to a variety of types of teaching. However, one drawback which arises from guest lectures for the primary instructor is a break in directing the learning process. 
 
To bridge that space I have been using Mentimeter. Students were able to post questions and comments during the guest lecture as well as afterwards. 
 
The synchronous and asynchronous use of Mentimeter allowed both students who attended the lecture as well as those who listened to the recording at home to note their questions and comments. This created a record for me to review. In this manner, I was able to identify and remedy any gaps in understanding while reinforcing salient points made in the guest lecture.

It is also useful during session for Q&A's as it can allow students to post anonymously which often encourages submission. It is also useful to use as an interactive quiz during sessions. I have encourages all the law staff to use mentimeter as much as possible

Using Menti means we can proceed through the quiz as a group (as opposed to, for example, Google Forms or Canvas quizzes), drawing attention to good resources for the trickier questions. When the quiz is done, we can scrub the responses and run it again in the next seminar!
