Ancient Romans had a republic government for about 500 years, but then later shifted into an empire government. This happened because of economic problems, government corruption, crime, and private armies, also because Julius Caeser defeated Mark Antony in the Battle of Actium. Ceaser gained full control of Rome and became the first Roman emperor.

During the republic government, Romans would vote for leaders as modern-day people vote for presidents. " The Romen comunnity would elect almost all officeholders annually". They did the same thing during the empire government too. To clarify this, thanks to their ideas, we now have a government today.

The legislative branch would be in charge of making all of the laws. To keep this short let me just say that Rome had many laws. For example, foreigners didn't have any rights in Rome. Also, once you were in the Roman army, you couldn't leave until you were told you can. All though the rules I stated were harsh, some rules were made to keep the people of Rome safe. An example of this is if people were to do arson, they would get the death penalty.

Something fascinating I learned was that our government is here today because of Romans and their ideas. With them coming up with a republic and an empire government, we now use similar traits they did back thousands of years ago.

I also learned that with Romans choosing leaders or emperors, we now choose presidents to lead us. With this, we see that even if their ways of voting are different from modern-day life, we can conclude that in the end there was a leader in charge. By different I mean they didn't wait in long lines just to circle a couple of things then leave.
